Another "Identify this beetle" thread

Can anyone put a name to this beetle I saw the other day on my patio gas bottle? The body was about 1cm long.

It is a common and widespread species found in forests and woodlands worldwide.

If it lives in forests, what the **** was it doing in my back yard in the middle of South Shields? There aren't any forests for miles

this just reminded me of a dream i had last night.

There were four of five massive foot long beetles in my garden and neighbors garden bright turquoise blue. I went out to look at them and they flew away. 1 crashed into a hedge but i couldn't find it...

Shield bug, poke it and it'll give off a nasty smell in defence.

Love shield bugs. They make a lot of noise when they fly!
