7850 or 7950? And what?

So I need to purchase a graphics card for my setup, I have pretty much got it down to A few cards

But first I need some advice. It's a simple enough question, is a 7950 worth the extra 80 quid over a 7850?

In terms of overclocking, I have read you can get some insane Overclocks on some 7850s to 7950 level and above with ease.

Does the 7950 have a similar overclocking potential? Will it have a similar potential?

I only play guild wars 2 a few other mmos and maybe a few fps games on 1080 x 1920 23" monitor

My choices would either be the his iceq turbo 7950 or the gigabyte windforcex3 as they both have excellent reviews and cooling. Although I struggle to find one comparing the gigabyte version to others.

Can anyone back this or does anyone have any conflicting opinions?

I plan on ordering before Wednesday and currently the wind force is on sale and the iceq is still preorder. So I need some advice on what to purchase and is it even worth the 7950?

From what I have been reading 7850 maybe powerful enough for what I need, if so what would you recommend?

I want something future proof for mmos for atleast a few years.

Any other advice is appreciated.*

if you can afford either then why not get the 7950? i have a 7850 and im happy with it but if i had the money at the time i would have got the 7950. considering the latest price cuts with the 7 series then why not get the 7950?

It really depends on your budget. If you are a hard up student, then the 7850 overclocked will provide a few years futureproofing already.

It's hard to calculate whether its better to spend the extra cash now to get a higher level graphics card or save it as its hard to guess how much of a leap the next gen graphics card will be and what the games demand will be like in a few years.

both cards will overclock very well. the 7850 can go beyond a 7950 but then the 7950 can overclock beyond a 7970 so either way you will be happy. you could always buy the 7850 now and get another when needed.

Bumping this up as I'm now back in the uk, has anybody got the 7950 wind force or iceqturbo. Not sure which to get to be honest. Tough choice.

Yep, the 6950>70's got divorced.

Ordered a His IceQ 7950 on offer(if I sell the games it works out well under £200).

It's a stopgap until the 7's/8's come out as I can't justify the cost for the small gain the 70's bring.

I promised one to a friend when I bought the WF, but because it went back he didn't get it, his gpu fried last week and I felt guilty, so I caved in and gave him one.

My boys getting a PC for Xmas, so I can't justify buying up to a 7850 when I have more or less the same sitting here, so it has a home too.

Nice one mate.

At the OP, I would be looking at the 7950 HIS that is on offer here. Good price and wise buy

Nice one Tommy.

Ordered it on Friday to be delivered tomorrow and just realised I've not had any more mail from OcUK:

'Order Status: In our warehouse queue' :(
