My new soon to be rig. Any suggestions?

Your Asus cooler is no good, 1155 cpu`s are not supported.

Some socket 1155 motherboards (like mine for example) have mounting holes for socket 775 coolers as well as for socket 1155 coolers. If you are smitten with that cooler, check to see if your motherboard of choice has 775 mounting holes.

ok thanks guys.

Another question. CPU cooler.
Looks like my motherboard of choice don't support my old one, so any recommendations for a nice cooler.

air flow, not water cooled! :)

Thanks for the advise, but I'm committed on the RAM. I do need that disgusting amount.

Its the cpu cooler I want some advise on now.

If you`re after amount this will do

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-134-GL

But hey, its your money I am just trying to save you few quid.

140 quid difference, add another 60 and you`ll have 3930K with 6 cores and 12 threads... Which will be much of use to you... You wont notice difference in ram between your corsair and what I gave you... You`ll have problems with coolers because corsair is very tall.

But 3930K requires 2011 motherboard.

Thx Lazder, I know this will sound stupid, but Ive have 'other' memory before and it always failed for me when running memtest. I sent the stuff back n forth to OCuk and in the end the solution was Corsair!
Stick with what you know :)

Nice info on the 6core i7. But I don't upgrade that often (2-3 years), and I was holding out for the next tech leap (ivybridge 22nm). So I'm gonna stick on that.

You could go corsair without spending so much, RAM is RAM tbh, pretty much everyone offer a lifetime warranty.

Could then get a larger SSD to. or two.

What do you use the pc for out of interest? Is the ram a 'need' or a 'want' as I can't see any use for that much.

The rig is for generating terrains with World machine, Photoshop stuff and game editing tools. The extra SSD's are for the swap / scratch discs. (raid 1 or 0)

The ram is the choke atm, when you have 4k terrain running several filters erosion colour passes n all that, the generation time is just stupid (4hrs+). Also, half the time the program just bails on you running out of memory, even with the conserve memory flag ticked!

I've just seen these...Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB

Looks the same tbh, but low profile & wayy cheaper than the others & still corsair. Any thoughts?

One of faster memory dimms with a low profile for the Asus Sabertooth Z77 board is

[ RipjawsZ ] F3-2400C10D-8GZH

OCUK Link to G.Skill TridentX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-2400C10D-8GTX)

The corsair low profile memory is only 1600MHz as opposed to the 2400MHz above.

With a 40mm height it will also fit under the Noctua-D14 cooler.

When using an air cooler it is sometimes useful to check what memory will fit under the Noctua-D14 cooler here. This is a useful guide for any air cooler you may be using. All coolers that fit under the Noctua-D14 will be no higher than 44mm.

The height of the Noctua-D14 is 160mm. So make sure the case you are using can accomodate the height of your chosen cooler.

well I have corsair ram Vengeance, and it has burned... if you look around forum quite few threads have been made with burned corsair ram.. So it is not that reliable.

For that type of thing and if you dont want to overclock cause of stability, check out Intel xeon 1230V2 its same price as 3570K and has performance of close to 3770K.

I would still advise you to get 3930K on saved money of ram... It will make huge difference in what you do against 3770K.. Some 2011 motherboards also have 8 slots for ram instead of 4, so you could always add more. The 2011 socket should live longer than 1155, it is currently top end.
