Guild Wars 2

Is the best sword in the game BOA or sellable on the auctions? If it's sellable on auctions I'll just keep on selling stuff and buy every bit of gear I need at end game.

AFAIK:

Top-end gear for sPvP is free
Top-end gear for WvWvW/Pve is purchasable, craftable, earn-able (i.e rep/karma/tokens), made in the mystic forge or randomly loot-able.

The best weapons (stat-wise) can be made by crafting and are not AFAIK bind-on-acquire, so you can have them made for you, it would just probably be bloody-expensive unless you can get guildies to do it for cheap.

Caved in and decided to buy this today. I had a walk round at dinner time, but everywhere is sold out.

I looked online and couldn't find any digital editions which is very odd, had it been available I would have coughed up the £35 I'm sure but instead I've gone back and started playing GW1 again :)

''Nice''

That means as long as I'm good with the market and clever with the money (don't drop it all into buying any crafting mats) I'll succeed at endgame gearing. Levelling the crafting should be important but not at any expense like in wow where you need it to get good items bound to your character.

I've managed to stick with my Necro (31 now :D) but I'm always tempted to try new classes. Just want to get one to a good level.

May try and convince Guildies to run first dungeon with me tonight :)

Question. If people join me in a lower level dungeon from high level do they scale down or must I find people my level?

Yes everyone is scaled down to that dungeons level.

Can anyone tell me if you can still pick a few NPCs from town to tag along for a mission instead of real people?

I really liked being able to do this and not needing to rely on other players as that's just too much of a chore, is this feature still present in GW2 or is it not needed now with how the quests are set up?

Rememberer this gear is only for use in sPvP and not WvWvW.

Nope its not like that, its more traditional mmo now. I am starting to miss the whole on you own with npcs thing. You have large areas in which you complete tasks for people, you only really have one main quest, the rest is made up in events which generally have several tiers to them.

There are a few dungeons which you have to group up with other players.

But saying gw2 has so much more than gw1 ever had, definatally still the best mmo makers in my humble opinon.

Thanks mate.

The grouping is what killed LOTRO for me, at least before it went F2P, could hardly ever get a decent gang together to finish so many missions that I lost interest and faded away.

Tried going back to LOTRO recently but the annoying/expensive travel methods just got on my nerves, I don't have a lot of time to game and if I have to spend most of it just getting around then I leave that session feeling quite disappointed, always liked how I can jump around in GW1 do something somewhere and then move on and I believe it's the same in GW2.

I think travel should be cheaper in this game, possibly even free if you're at a waypoint with a nominal charge if you're around and about. Putting a hefty charge on it discourages exploration of the world. Why charge so much to get back to Lion's Arch but then allow people to go to PvP and from there to Lion's Arch for free? it's just bad game design.

I was under the impression you could travel to the main places you had found like in GW1, is that not the case?

You can travel to LA for free from anywhere.

Just press H -> PvP -> Go through the gate to LA

You can then jump to the waypoint in LA and travel to any of the racial cities for free.

Also, by charging for waypoints it does the exact opposite of discouraging exploration. It makes people run where they want to go instead of just warping to wherever they want so they actually get to see and explore the world.

As for the cost, I do think it's a little high. What I think would be a good idea is if waypoint costs were reduced based on the exploration of that area (down to max of 50%). So for every 2% of the area you've completed you get a 1% waypoint fee reduction. Would make exploration and completing an area worth while.

The fact that I wrote that in the post you quoted suggests I might already know that :p

it's shoddy game design though, if they want travel to LA to be free....then make it free. Don't make us jump through hoops that not everyone would know about.

I enjoy exploration at the beginning but once I've found somewhere and just want to jump to such and such a place to tick off a quest or do something I don't want to spend half hour getting there and having to pay for the pleasure isn't particularly nice either.

Shame they've done this, seems pointless too if there is a way around it using the PVP method as mentioned but I guess that hole will be plugged in due course one way or another or they might as well let you travel to the racial hubs for free to avoid jumping through hoops.

Ah sorry, how you wrote it implied you knew you could travel to LA from PvP for free, but were paying to go to LA from PvE. I was just saying you don't have to pay to go to LA from PvE by using the PvP loophole.

But yes, it is dumb having to use the PvP back door to do it for free. Travel to LA and all Racial Cities should be free, as people often only go to LA just to jump through another gate somewhere else. And as Waypoint travel in LA is free, and racial city waypoints are free (once you're in them), it seems odd to force people through a bottleneck for no good reason.
