US Open Tennis 2012

I haven't seen the match yet but unless Murray has turned from being a decent player to one of the all time greats(which he is not on past form) I think you are over-egging the pudding a bit.

Well he has visibly improved this year in terms of consistency, durability and mentality. Similar shades to the breakthrough that Djokovic made 2-3 years ago. He certainly 'keeps up' on court with Federer, Djokovic better than in the past. Definitely a match for any of them.

Absolutely delighted for Murray. Played well throughout the whole tournament and thoroughly deserved the win. I'm not sure if the defeat to Federer at Wimbledon was the catalyst for the last few months or the win at the Olympics but there's no reason why he can't win more titles now the first is out of the way.

Also delighted that this win puts to an end the drive by trolling that infested tennis threads whenever Murray lost. Never going to win a major is he? How'd you feel now you bunch of muppets!

Absolutely brilliant, first thing I did this morning was check the scores and then double check just to make sure I wasn't reading it wrong. If there's such a thing as 'justice' in sport then he has deserved it for coming so close before, to lose four finals prior to this and then win in such tense circumstances against a modern day great shows remarkable strength of character - credit must also be due to Lendl for helping focus the anger when things are going wrong into a better performance and improving consistency.

I'm not surprised that it's the US Open he's won as it's always been the tournament his style is most suited to but that he's actually done it now is great. I just hope it gets the recognition it deserves as Britain isn't always all that good at acknowledging any tennis outside Wimbledon.

Superb.

All the haters gotta eat crow now.

You reckon? I wouldn't be surprised if they just go quiet for a bit, don't acknowledge they were wrong and then come back if he doesn't win the next 17 on the trot with "he's got no consistency" or "he's only won it once, he was just lucky". However I don't want to get distracted from the fact this is a fantastic result for Mr Murray - the first man ever to win the Olympic title and the US Open in the same year.

When it got to two sets all I didn’t think he had it in him but there you go. Superbly played and a great win Murray. There should be a few more titles on the way after this win.

It was a fantastic match to watch with lots of long tactical rallies going on.

I'm don't think this is going to spark off a winning streak because I still think he is the weakest of the top group of players, but he has certainly closed that gap massively in the last year or so.

I don't get the point of mentioning prize money during the ceremony, these guys already have so much money that it doesn't really matter and they just want to get their hands on the trophy.

Well done Andy!

I had to go to bed when he was 3-0 up in the second set and thought he was going to breeze it. Woke up to find it was a 5-set thriller!

Really pleased for him, lets hope it leads on to more slams in the future.

Gutted....that I fell asleep at the end of the third set!!

Well done Andy, so pleased he's lifted one of the Slams. What a fantastic sporting year it's been.

Good to see the small changes to his game taking him to the next level. Last year I could easily have seen him losing both of the first 2 sets, after he had taken the lead and then got clawed back. But he regained his focus and kept positive and out fought Djokovic on the big points. I had been worried that he might come unstuck again, just because Djokovic plays the big points like a robot and rarely tightens up.

If Andy Murray can win a match like that one, in a big final, then I'm sure he's got others in him yet.

Delighted for him winning his first grand slam after his improvement in the last few years and the hate from certain sections of the public. Just hope now that he can continue to improve and win Wimbledon.
