Car Breakdown cover - how much do you pay?

It's actually not part of the extended warranty - it's a seperate payable option at about £100 but they always include it in the quote. You can remove it and reduce the quote by about £100. I'd imagine it's the same as the BMW offering as they are both Mondial Assistance but even if you decline the breakdown package if you break down they'll still come out to you - but cover is limited to recovery to the nearest franchised dealer.

When I had my old BMW it was an option ... I got two quotes, one with and one without. On my previous Mercedes I wasnt given the option not to have it.

Additionally, as long as I get my car serviced at Mercedes, I get it thrown in until the car is 25 years old.

Yup - but this is limited again to recovery to the nearest franchised dealer only. Which I gather is something you'll probably be very loath to do once its out of warranty. Thats the sad thing about Mercedes - I really like them and would be tempted by one but the ownership costs seem disproportionately expensive compared to BMW. I don't loath paying the costs associated with such a car but the warranty costs seem significantly more expensive than the same product on a similar car from BMW.

I obtained a quote a few months ago for an SL350 (No complex air suspension on these). £2500 if it was under 60k, £5000 if it was over 60k. Per year. Just bonkers. An E60 M5 would cost less to warranty.

I'd be so tempted with an E Class if the associated costs were as down to earth as the 5 Series. I happily service my 5 at franchised dealers, I cannot imagine many 2002 E Class owners do the same!

Not a problem for you as your car is under new car warranty for 2.5 years and I gather you probably wont keep it past that but its another story for dull people like myself who like to keep a car for ages.

I'm guessing a 2002 E class was the previous model (W211)? If I remember rightly that was not Mercedes finest hour in car production.

Intending keep this car for at least 4 years and will keep a warranty as long as possible. But you are right compared to BMW they are stupid price. My C-class cost me £1k for the warranty as I'd gone over the 60k limit. When I was rear ended last month, Mercedes did recover my car to my home address but it was the bank holiday weekend.

Does anyone have cover with Greenflag? I could only see the only cover the cars themselves, not the drivers? Anyone know if this is an option ? I prefer being covered personally, not the car.

I am currently with RAC and want to move to Greenflag. If they are cheaper then win win, but the main reason for moving is that I really like the Bug they have on the side of the vans. Yes you heard me, I think the green bug is epically cool.

Around £70 a year with the RAC, that includes full recovery home. Didn't bother with homestart, if the cars dead on the drive I'll sort it myself.

**** *** QUIDCO. Absolute bunch of ***** along with the AA, this is just pure bull.

Sign up expecting my £50 cashback? Refused the first time. Put in a claim with all my evidence of policy details etc etc.

Refused again, and here is their BS reason.

Hi,

We have now had a response from the retailer and I’m afraid that they have declined your claim on this occasion as the commission for the referral has been paid elsewhere.
We know how disappointing this is and we don’t like it either, but in the circumstances we are unfortunately unable to take this any further for you.

Cashback is actually the commission Quidco receives for referring an on-line sale to a retailer and we pass this on to you, the customer.

When this commission is paid elsewhere we are unable to obtain any further details as the retailer is not obliged to give us the name of the referrer. To help you with future purchases, I’ve provided a list of factors which can cause cashback to be declined for this reason at the bottom of this message.

Once again I’m sorry that there is nothing further we can to do help on this occasion.

Kind regards,

Quidcare

REASONS WHY CASHBACK MAY BE PAID TO ANOTHER REFERRER

1. Failing to clear cookies and temporary internet files in your browser prior to making your purchase through you Quidco account, leaving a “cookie” from another referrer such as a search engine, a voucher code site or even the retailer’s own site, on your browser.

2. Accessing another site such as a voucher code site during your purchase, allowing them to drop one of their cookies on your browser.

3. Using a voucher/promotional code not issued by Quidco in your purchase (when you do this cashback will never be paid, as the sale is attributed to the issuer of the voucher code).

4. Using a saved quote when buying insurance. In order for cashback to track you must obtain a quote and proceed with the purchase in one session.

5. Failing to complete your purchase wholly on line.

I don't buy any of that.

Something dodgy going on I'm sure. I can only assume it's due to my sister having breakdown cover with the AA a few years ago.

She was down as the second member on the breakdown policy. Fuming right now!

The RAC patrolmen are massively better than the AA's, as when the RAC had to take on AA's contract from VW they all had to redo their training and not vice versa with RAC people going to AA with Peugeot.

The RAC is the premium product of the group, breakdown cover is something I would skimp on.

I have had both and noticed no real difference.

My AA renewal came in at 200 quid, rang to cancel and they sliced it down to 100, that's including breakdown repair cover too :)

I recall seeing 'Confused' post on here about the offer, then I went onto my pc. Opened up a clean AA window via Quidco & completed the purchase.

I didn't use any voucher codes etc, absolute nonsense from them IMO.

I've never needed breakdown recovery. However the AA helped me out of a tricky spot and got me home quickly and the chap was a petrolhead. He gave me lots of advice and for that I genuinely will stick with them for breakdown.

I've been with the RAC a few years now..every. renewal I pay for it with tesco clubcard vouchers so don't really notice it.
Had to call them out 3 times and been excellent each time.

I pay £45 a year for Britannia Rescue....get a discount on that and my insurance for using them and being a member of the CSMA motoring club (free membership).

Never had to use them so I can't tell you how good or bad they may be

I normally treat cashback sites like Quidco and Topcashback as a bonus, and not something that is guaranteed. I've had my fair share of declined cashback and never really base my purchases around it.

Saying that, I did manage to get AA breakdown cover + national recovery for myself and the wife for £40 via Quidco. :)
