Woops mot has expired

Total pet hate of mine - my father is an MOT tester and the amount of people who come in with the sheepish look on their face ranging from a couple of days to a couple of months - its not difficult at all.
 
Funny how people always moan about the 'nanny state' but need/want a letter to tell them to do something at the same time every year...

Not actually true. An mot is only proof of roadworthyness on a certain date. You would certainly have a fight on your hands if you needed to claim. The insurer would have to prove your car was unroadworthy though.

Would it not be a clause in pretty much every insurance contract that it's only valid if the car is confirmed roadworthy by an MOT certificate though? If i were an insurance company i would definitely have that in there, in bold and underlined.

Proving it can't be hard though right? Do they not ask for MOT info when claiming? (never claimed myself).

Cheers, still need the no off the MOT certificate or the logbook, which kind of makes the purpose irrelevant!!

Not really, I still want to check my car. But don't want to go hunting for the log book or MOT certificate. Since they are both together anyway, then I will get all the information from the MOT certificate itself, so there is then no need to use the internet service to tell me when I last had the MOT done!!

How unorganised do you have to be to not know exactly where your logbook/mot is, and not know when it's due. We live in an age where everything is at our fingertips via some form of electronic device. Of all the gadgets we have surely its easy to add important dates like MOT to a reminder.
Really no excuse for forgetting.

You make everything sound so fraught with difficulty :D Just make a note of the doc number the next time you are in the same region of the universe you have planted your V5c and you'll be able to check online in the future.

I know which month my MOT is due. I was just curious as to know the exact date, I know it's not important, but I was just a little interested.

Since I'm at work, I just fancied browsing on-line to see what the date was. As soon as I get home I'll just grab the actual MOT certificate itself, which will be quicker than putting the details in on-line!
 
For years, I always had my MOT done when my tax expired and for some unknown reason, when the new system came into play, it ended 4 months earlier than the tax ran out.

The tax was due at the end of the week and I got pulled for not having a valid MOT. Apparently I wasn't the first, although I was made to feel like a terrorist until I pulled the MOT out of the glovebox. How on gods earth an MOT can last less then 12 months is beyond me. I wouldn't have thought it possible to specify a date at the garage, so I can only assume it was an issue with the new system.
 
I don't have any excuse for forgetting my bike MOT. I changed my tax disc and insurance renewal last year as I didn't fancy riding in the crap weather, and as tax/insurance/mot had all been at the same time before hand, it didn't occur to me that it'd be any different this year. It's the first time in 25 years driving/riding it's ever happened.

I did add reminders to my calendar pretty much straight after though so it won't happen again.
