I am thinking of buying the LG IPS235V but coming from a 16:10 samsung 226bw am I going to be disappoint ? is the shorter screen height been an issue or putting anyone else off upgrading their monitor ? are there any good 16:10 screens on the horizon

They're still about, in fact we got an NEC EA243WM not that long ago, superb monitor. Just not too popular because of the 1080p/"Full HD" (1920x1080) resolution got pushed like crazy as a standard.
We'll most probably stick with 16:9 for a while, especially with Wide Quad High Definition (2560×1440) and 4K Ultra-high-definition (3840×2160)

Can still find them here and there - mostly aimed at workstation/professional markets tho.

You will probably get used to 16:9 pretty quickly tbh.

My Samy is 16:9 and my DGM is 16:10 Can NOT beat a 16:10. The 16:10 gets used for Photography with PSCS5/Lightroom etc.
The Dell U2412M is 16:10 but a bit pricy. That is my next buy..

There's still a fair few out there which are 16:10 but pretty much all in the 24" sector now. Dell U2410, U2412M, HP ZR2440w, Asus PA246Q, PA248Q, NEC P241W, PA241W, Samsung S24A850DW, Eizo SX2462W and other Eizo models all spring to mind :)

That has me thinking, what is the future for PC moniters?
OLED or AMOLED?
Other Screen Tecnologies (SED, FED, LCD)?
4K -8K Ultra-High Definition?
16:9 or 16:10?

Certainly, to anwser the OP's question.
Yes, 16:9 Resolution moniters puts me off upgrading further, from a Dell 2407WFP.
Certainly for me, the Screen is one of the biggest factors of gaming, its how we percieve most of the information are computers generate.

16:10 persists in the business area because 16:9 is just plain silly as a PC work display. It's equally silly as a gaming display sitting 2 feet from your face, but that's another argument :)

Yep, a 24" 16x10 (1920x1200) display can show two A4 sheets side by side at 100%, the 1920x1080 monitors can't and it's a pain in the ****.
