have a intel quad core with 8gb of ram, gigabyte board about 3 years old, I am planning on changing board proc and ram later so thats why i thought of the 850w, dont plan on going sli i dont think either
 
If you are certain you won't be going down the SLI/Crossfire path in the future, a decent brand 550W PSU would be plenty, and the money you saved (comparing to the 850W PSU) would be better off spent on upgrading other things.

One bad review for a dodgy fan but a very good solid PSU and you always have the option of SLI in the future. Who knows what we want to do at times? :)
