iPhone 5 Detail Today

Well all the apps have to be updated otherwise they'll have a letterbox around the sides. Such an advanced operating system.

I don't know why they made this so thin, I thought the iPhone 4 was the right thickness when comparing to the competitors all those months ago? The battery would have been epic.

I just can't believe how the tables have turned to suddenly Apple playing catchup in the field which they shook to hell only 5 years ago.

Just look at what the S3 offers to the i5 and what the S2 offered to the i4s....

This constant 'touch up' and not real advancements that Apple have been doing fir the last few generations is going to thoroughly screw them over.

I wonder how long till people actually realise what they're doing.

They all look much of a much to me, except the Android ones are bigger. I think smartphones have reached a point where there won't be any more 'wow' moments, at least not very often. Nerdy excitement will come from other new product lines (no, not tablets either).

Yeah, at the moment the technology just isn't there that will 'wow' us. Just about the boldest hardware move Apple could have made was to use the A6 chip, and they did that at least.

The Galaxy S3 didn't even remotely wow anyone either. Everyone was completely underwhelmed, just like with this.

IDK what your talking about here, but it is just as sharp as apples device. my GF has a GN which isnt the best screen out their but I see no real difference between that and my 4s, please could you clear up what you mean by "what apple does" cause it just sounds like your making up stuff.

Everything is rendered at the full resolution but displayed at half the size so it is far, far sharper and clearer. Compare two web pages side by side, huge difference.

No good having the support if none of the carriers want to use your system.

But their is more of a push for it, and if the iPhone had it we would see a much faster up take which is what I'm trying to say. Right now google wallet isnt on many devices and very small support but their is a movement to NFC payments.

So its not very fast, but an iPhone with NFC could see that all change.

I doubt it will take very long for the majority of my apps to get updated. It didn't take long for apps to get Retina updates a couple of years ago and most of my iPad ones are up to date with the screen res on that too.

Sorry, S2 to the S3 was a wow.

There were genuine improvements in the phone, hardware and software.

By that logic, the 4S > 5 has to be a wow as well then.

I was carefully reading the S3 thread when it was announced, there was very little - if any - wow reaction to it.

Its more difficult now, for retina you just need to add the HQ images, and the OS takes care of the rest. With this they need to actual change the layout for all their screens and so on, its not a huge amount of work but it is a lot more then adding new images.

mrk ;). For me it was more of a let down with the build/design was hoping from something really HQ, not to say the S3 isnt nice, just not top notch.

Yes there was no wow reaction to the S3 when announced. The wow came after people started getting it in their hands and actually using it and the wow still continues every time I overhear people talking about their new S3.

I even say wow to myself when using my own phone because it's just not something I would think about on the S2 which I had for 18 months. The S3 does so much but at a much faster pace without a hint of getting tired compared to the S2.

And then there's the camera...

As I recall everyone was massively disappointed or annoyed during the announcement. But a while later things turned around, S2>S3 was an improvement in every way.

I'll back that up, I'm an S2 owner who's due for a upgrade but I'm going to pass it over as I can't justify locking myself into another expensive 18 month contract for the S3 when to me the improvements over what I have aren't worth it.

I'll be waiting for the S4 probably (unless something else wow comes out in the mean time).

They will seriously need to do something different with their next iphone, change the design, completely revamp iOS and actually have current gen tech. (no 720P screen, no NFC etc.........

The thing is they don't seriously need to do more than they have done - they are lapping up the monies and for good reason - its a great product for the masses and every Joe want's it and can afford it. It appeals to all sort of people from the chavs to the educated pro's. Apple are doing what they do best which is making lots of people happy at the same time as making LOLMONIES.

They don't need to change their game until they are under threat - which at the moment they are not. The other OEMS need to step up their game big time - all these half-assed Android phones make me shudder. None of them are perfect when they at-least one of them damn well should be. Rant over ;/

Not convinced the A6 actually contains dual A15s.

Anandtech are the only ones to have reported this and they seem to have based this solely on Apples claims of 2x the performance of the 4S, and considering that the ip4s only had dual ~800mhz A9s i think it's probably more likely that the ip5 actually has dual 1.4-1.6ghz A9s.

This doesn't really explain the naming change from A5-A6 but I guess we'll have to wait until some official specs come out for the A6. It will be very interesting to see how the ip5 performs if it does actually contain A15s.

Exactly, this is my point.

I think it's a LOT better than I did originally, hence why I bought one, but on the face of it, it wasn't hugely impressive at first.

The iPhone 5 could well be the same situation. In fact I'm fairly sure it will be.

Indeed.

Genuine question why was the jump from the Galaxy S2 to S3 amazing , yet this is underwhelming when it seems to be pretty much the same increases in both phones??
The jump is quite big in performance, camera and screen but the design was utter **** compared to what it could have been.

I believe the 5 to be a substantial jump from the 4s - screen size jump will be very welcome to a lot of people.
