Pretty amazing discovery if true!

British archaeologists say a skeleton found under a city centre car park in central England could be that of the medieval king Richard III.

Researchers from the University of Leicester said they had found a male skeleton with similarities to historical descriptions of Richard, who ruled England between 1483 and his death in battle in 1485.

The remains, which are well preserved, are undergoing DNA analysis.

"What we have uncovered is truly remarkable," said Richard Taylor, the university's director of corporate affairs.

"This skeleton certainly has characteristics that warrant extensive further detailed examination," he told a press conference.

The team, which has been excavating a car park in the city of Leicester for three weeks, said the skeleton had an arrow-head embedded in its back and had received blows to the skull consistent with injuries received in battle.

...

Today, Richard III is best known as the hunchbacked villain of the eponymous play by William Shakespeare - and while the skeleton is not that of a hunchback, it does have a curved spine.

"This would have made his right shoulder appear visibly higher than the left shoulder," Mr Taylor said.

"This is consistent with contemporary accounts of Richard's appearance."

'...blows to the skull consistent with injuries received in battle.' Or a typical mugging in Leicester.

Wonder when people will start digging up bodys and just leave them be, even for hisorical purposes, there's really no need to know that much about the past, people should be more concerned on the future.

Will this gravesite be eventually covered up again and turned back into a drab carpark, or actually turned into a site of historical interest?

Leicester does not care about historical interests. Look at all of the old buildings with bags of character and history torn down to make way for 'affordable housing' - most of which still have 'apartments' [hate that word *shudder*] up for sale

so many bad jokes...

I love them!

They really are charging a kings ransom to park these days...

A source with knowledge of the excavation told the Telegraph archaeologists will name the skeleton found beneath a Leicester car park in September as the Plantagenet king even if long-awaited DNA results on the bones prove inconclusive.

Additional evidence not revealed at a major press conference after the remains were found demonstrates beyond all reasonable doubt that the body is the King's, even without genetic proof, the source said.

Leicester University experts announced earlier this year that there was convincing evidence suggesting the remains were those of Richard III, but have always insisted DNA analysis is needed before a conclusion can be reached.
