Pro Cycling - 2012 Season

Are you going over to watch any live? We're off to the Pyrenees on the 13th for a week. Should catch 3 stages at least :)

I'm not no. Sounds good.

I was staying at a friends place in France and the tour went right by their house which got me interested in it. Severall years ago now. I always thought it would be good fun to hire a camper van and follow it through the Alps/Pyreness.

Garmin have announced their kit for the TdF.
Sharp are now a name sponsor, the team is to be called Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda.

It actually looks not too bad in the drawings, it doesnt look so good in reality though.

This is the new SaxoBank-TinkoffBank kit.

Dont think any of the other big teams have made any changes.

Less than 24 hours to go now.

Prologue is a short 6.4km time trial. The map looks like its quite twisty, but all of the sharp turns are round roundabouts so it shouldnt be too technical. The fastest times should be around 7mins20, so it will be a very short (but hard) race. So it's possible that some of the big sprinters who dont usually TT well could put in a good time. In such a short race, there wont be big time gaps, but i'm expecting wiggins to put a couple of seconds into the main GC rivals.

I put a couple of bets on for winner of prologue today:
Rogers 40:1
Westra 75:1
Farrar 110:1
Sagan 7:1
Stuck £2 on each.

Team Sky announces their Vuelta team.
Froome
Flecha
Henao
Pate
Porte
Stannard
Swift
Urán
Zandio

I expect another dominant race by Sky. There are a lot of good climbers in that team. Contador might be a threat to them, but i think he will be a bit off the pace having not raced for a while (other than the Eneco tour, which he is racing just now).

Strong team there. I hope to see some trademark attacks by Contador.

Yep, i'm sure he will try something. He might not have the legs to win the race over 3 weeks, but it would be good to see him put in some attacks. It's his home tour though, and i'm sure he will have been training hard for it, so anything could happen. It's hard to say, because we havnt seen him race for so long.

I enjoyed being informed twice in rapid succession that Kendal is the "Southern gateway to the Lakes" and is "9 miles from Windermere". That helped.

World Champs squads:

Mens road race
Mark Cavendish
Steve Cummings
Alex Dowsett
Chris Froome
Luke Rowe
Ian Stannard
Ben Swift
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke
Bradley Wiggins

Mens TT
Alex Dowsett
Chris Froome

Womens road race
Lizzie Armitstead
Katie Colclough
Nicole Cooke
Nikki Harris
Sharon Laws
Emma Pooley

Womens time trial
Wendy Houvenaghel
Emma Pooley

Being a bit new to all this, I don't know much about the circuit, but I understand it's quite hilly, so that's likely to count the men out? Shame Froome will likely still be shot from the Vuelta really.

Pooley must fancy her chances though.

Working all day in Guildford town. Bit of a kick in the teeth as I'll be within 50 metres of the final sprint but wont be able to see any of it! Gah!
