What is the etiquette here.
Open it and read it there or take it home.

Only ever got one and I worked alone (night job with occasional overtime in the day with people) so I just read it at the desk as I started my shift.
Everywhere I have worked before hasn't been a card culture.

Due to leave this job tomorrow and this is the type of place to do leavers cards (judging by other people who have left), if I do get one what should I do, read it there or say thanks and take it home to read.

Sweet, cheers gents.

I don't know these things, I don't get all pally with people at work it's just not in my nature.
To be honest I think it was wierd enough I had to bring cakes in, I'll do it regardless like but it seems wierd, never been in my work culture.

Well my thinking is, last time i got one it took me a few minutes to read the damn thing.
Am I really expected to make people wait for me to read basically the same thing written slightly differently 30 times.

Well sorry, some of us weren't born into the 9-5 office culture.

I'm sure most people know this kind of thing, it's a gap in my knowledge.

Lol, its not exactly a skill which needs to be learnt. Have you never had a birthday? Or experienced a Christmas day? Unless you are below 1, a Jehovah's witness, or Muslim etc, I would imagine you probably have. If you are one of the aforementioned then I apologise.

So, when somebody gives you a card on your birthday, do you open it?

When someone gives you a present on Christmas day, do you open it?

Im sure the answer to both of those is yes. Same applies here.

Did you not see the one about how to go about not eating the cake that someone was going to bring in?

Jesus. I stand corrected! Lol.

Seriously? people come from many different backgrounds and whats common knowledge, etiquette or socially acceptable in one might be totally different or unknown in another.

Some people through no fault of their own may have lived very sheltered lives and not be familiar with things like this.

No, Im sorry, I simply cannot accept that somebody needs to ask a forum as to whether to open a card or not.

Who cares. Just open it man! :D

Mate, you don't need to read it. Don't think anybody does.
