BMW owners hit by high tech theft

This weekend I will be moving the OBD socket, from reading E90 post it sounds like a quick and simple temporary solution.

Is mine safe or am I about to get it robbed away by some chav in a baseball cap?

No car is safe - just make sure you are with a reputable insurance company and don't worry about it. It's only metal and cars are easily replaced unless you have a super rare classic or something.

I would sleep better if BMW fixed the sensor blind spot that allows the window to be smashed, without setting the alarm off. I'm not convinced that is a software update.

My rear window was smashed by a council strimmer propelled stone and the alarm didn't sound. I could get my arm in up to my shoulder before the sensor picked it up and the alarm sounded. Why BMW don't just fit a glass break sensor is beyond me.

I have film on the front two windows now and always make sure the car is locked.

The car (e71) had a full re flash less than two months ago due to an issue with the bonnet switch setting the alarm off. It will have to go in again for the "security" re flash on the next service that is due soon. I will see if BMW contact me about id but not holding my breath.

I am aware no car is safe, I don't worry about such things but if there is a fixable flaw that makes it a bigger problem then I will get it sorted. It's and F10 530D so nothing special.

I dont think the F10 is affected.

I would hope not as I asked the saleswoman I bought it off if this sort of car was driven by poor people on estates and she assured me it wasn't. If she lied I might have to go legal and involve Max Clifford.

You need to wait for the magic signal before you know its a car that fits that description.

'Hi need some tyres for my F10, what about....'
