PC freezes for 2/3 seconds

So I built a new PC today (i5, 8gb ram, 7850, 430w corsair psu) and have Windows 7 installed. Every now and then the mouse will freeze for 2/3 seconds then start again. I've got a feeling the whole PC is stopping because the windows key doesn't bring the menu up.

Any ideas what part of the machine could cause this? I built 2 of these and the other one isn't having any issues although the PSU is a 530w.

Thanks

Ahhh, seriously? Do you think it'd cause stutter like this? I could swap the PSU's but it would be a right pain as they're all cable tied in... I didn't imagine the system taking up 430w :(

edit: is there anything I could do to push it over the edge, so to speak? don't know if that would help but would it not just shut down if it couldn't keep powering everything?

I've had the freeze issue a few times on my first build and it was memory card related. Try switching all memory sticks with your other system to see if it makes any difference and run a memory diagnostic.

Update One thing I didn't mention in the OP was the video game issues. We're getting some sort of "feedback", almost like flashing scanlines/interference. I have swapped EVERYTHING out apart from the CPU/MB and I'm still getting this issue. My rig was fine but it's doing it with my parts swapped into the problem machine as well.

Is this the motherboard? It seems like my only option is to swap it to make absolutely sure...

Is the PSU the Builder Series?
If it is this could be causing the stutter as they are surprisingly badly made with cheap capacitors.

Put the machines back together and swap them over (As in location) to rule out power point and other possible issues?

Have you installed all chipset drivers from the manufacturer website? I assume so as this is your second build of the same spec apart from the PSU is that right?

I have swapped EVERYTHING out apart from the CPU/MB

So you have tried the working PSU in the troublesome machine?

Yep I bit the bullet and pulled everything out. It was literally her hard drive and case with my parts by the end of the night and I still had the problem. I moved power points to rule that out. I'm now putting another hard drive in and installing windows/drivers from scratch. Wish me luck. :(

No luck... Really struggling to find the cause of this graphical glitch. I've done absolutely everything minus updating the BIOS now... Thinking about just returning the cards/mobos. (XFX HD7850 and MSI B75MA-P45)

edit: It seems like the "scanlines" appear when the hd7850 has to work. Whenever you start a game the fan becomes louder and then the lines appear. When you turn the game off the fan goes back to normal and there are no lines.

Yep fresh install. MSI B75MA-P45 mobo on both along with the hd 5870. Seagate 320 on mine and a Hitachi 500 on hers.

Both have SATA mode on AHCI? Although it shouldn't make a difference since both are mechanical drives.

Have you done a memtest on the one with the problem?

No memtest yet, I'll give it a shot. Would it interfere that much with gaming? General browsing seems to be OK now. Tbh the parts have been poked and prodded so much now that I'm worried about them. :(

Gave CS:GO a shot. Massive lag (being in one spot and then teleporting to the other) even though I had low ping. Scanlines/interference is still showing up. GPU is quite loud when tasked with processing a game.

Should I risk it and order new GPUs for Monday or do you think it's the mobo?

e/ running memtest on both machines now, will report back soon. I also used ATI Tool and stress tested the GPU for 2 minutes. 0 artifacts but it went to 75c and made a hell of a noise!

Memtest passed. BIOS flashed, not fixed it. Basically done everything I can do now. What's the chances of two GPUs/MBs being faulty? :o I've even went to an older driver version and that's not helped. I'm now officially out of ideas. :(

That's the first i've heard of that.

I doubt the PSU is causing the freezing tbh.

@Lazder a 430w PSU such as the Corsair is fine for a i5 and a 7850.

I have a 3770K at 4.4ghz, 16GB Ram, Asus GTX 670 TOP and I only use 310w max in games.

@OP what are you doing when the freezing occurs ?

I know the original post was about the freezing, but that seems to have stopped and I now have a bad graphical problem. It's like there are scanlines or some sort of interference on the screen.

Think I've found the issue. I've been using a DVI to VGA adapter for my monitor. Plugged in my TV via HDMI.. No issues. :x So I either need two new monitors or some sort of converted cable that wont cause the graphical issue..

That does happen. Presumably since VGA is old and analogue and DVI is modern-ish and digital it can't convert/display perfectly. Is your monitor VGA only? If it is then an upgrade to a newer monitor might give you better IQ.
