Samsung galaxy note 10.1...the most powerful tablet ever?

I've been playing with it instore and I just don't like the UI. It still feels sluggish and as snappy compared to the iPad 3. I found the same experience with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note handset also. The S3 on the other hand is perfect.

Which shops have them in so far?

I'm very tempted by one of these to replace my Touchpad. The pen looks like it could make the device great for taking notes at uni. I could have all the lecture notes (powerpoints/pdfs) saved on there, and annotate them on the go. Same with the textbooks I've got (all PDFs). Could be quite a useful feature, in addition to all the usual tablet features.

Looks like none of the shops local to me have this in stock yet. Took a trip to have a play around with a demo unit, they've all got them listed on their websites, but none in store :(.

Anyone got one? Thinking of getting myself one for uni, already love my Note and this seems perfect.

Only thing is I cant seem to find a grey one instock anywhere in the UK? Are they not available over here?

I picked one up a few days ago, despite the somewhat mixed reviews.

Opinion so far is that's is great. The screen is great quality, but a higher resolution panel would always be nice. Speed wise it's top notch, it matches or beats any other tablet I've seen. I've had a quick play around with annotating PDFs with the S-Pen and it seems to work well. I'm not sure I'd use it in lectures, but it's a very useful tool to have around, in addition to all the usual features you'd expect from a tablet. As for the grey one I've not found anywhere with stock either, in the end I had to order a white one into Argos.

If there's anything specific you want me to check out, let me know.

Thats good to here, I have seen some reviews online and to be fair they make it sound as if it's complete and utter ****

I've literally just had a reply from Samsung, after emailing them about the grey availability:

Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.

This is just the intial release for this model in the UK. New colours will be available soon but as of yet, we have no official release date.

Ideally I would like this in my hands for starting back to Uni in a weeks time, but I cant stand white gadgets. I'll take your word on its performance, I cant see how it can be so bad. But not liking iPads/ios this seems to be the next best thing.

Honestly the performance in and around android, and in the web browsers is as good, if not better than my GS3. It's the same hardware, but with more RAM, so there's no reason for it to be anything but amazingly quick.

The reviews are very hit and miss. One thing I did notice is that a lot are scoring it down massively because the additional features (such as the S-Pen and multitasking, which NO other tablet has) aren't perfect. Even if they're not perfect, surely they must add to the score. The tablet does the basics as well as any other tablet, and has features that no other tablet has, even if they're not perfect.

I wouldn't score it down for that, I'd give it a rating based on the normal features, as I would do for a normal tablet, and then add points on for the additional features.

From the Samsung Galaxy S3 thread:

It was originally rumored that it would never have jellybean. :)

Samsung won't leave their flagship tablet without a single update. Jellybean leaks are already out for the 10.1, so it's only a matter of time before we see the full release.

Pre-ordered the grey version from HMV last friday, with the release date stating the 01/10 which has now been pushed back to the 10/10? :(

Played with a couple at the Eurogamer Expo this past weekend.
Watched each model at the Samsung stand sluggishly play games let alone the os homescreens. Wasn't impressed really.

Not sure why they would be doing that. I've got one here right now and it's anything but sluggish! It's as fast, if not faster than my GS3 at everything, and I've honestly yet to find anything that it struggles at!

Very pleased with mine so far! I'd suggest finding one somewhere else, as there was definitely something not right with the ones you saw.

Well I just put it down to being either crippled by samsung bloat at the time, or the OS just being bogged down by a 1000 apps running in the background.

Could well be a ridiculous amount of stuff running in the background I guess. I'd be a bit scared to imagine just how much stuff was in there though, as I've never even come close to filling up the 2GB RAM!

But either way, that's not how they perform normally :).

I used this today in a PC world / Currys and felt its the fastest android tablet i've used so far but still not as smooth as the Ipad 3 which is a shame :(

Tried it in the Samsung store and it felt a bit too laggy - did help that the pages were rammed with awful samsung widgets.

Samsung really need to get their arse in gear and properly setup their phones/tabs for display!! Like apple do!

Finally got a Grey Version after hunting for many weeks

Very happy with it so far, very responsive.

Can anyone help me with regards to a charger for my Galaxy Note 10.1? I got the one that comes with the tablet but its way too short to have it plugged while in bed. I saw they are selling a 3 meter one at amazon but for the Galaxy Tab. Would it work on the Note too?

Also, is there anything that can allow the tablet to be charged from the PC (i.e. some sort of convertor)?
