iPhone 5 Detail Today

I've been following this for the last couple of days. I watched the keynote with an open mind because as much as I love the Android platform, I love new technology and interesting OS improvements even more.

I know that this will millions in the first few months and many people will be very happy with their purchases, but I watched the keynote and all I could do was think, my phone does that already.

The girlfriend will upgrade i'm sure, but for me it will have to be a new Nexus when they are announced.

Maybe because it's the exact same argument iSheep used when the pervious models of iPhone where outselling just about everything else out there.

A model of iphone outselling everything is impressive.

A model of iphone being outsold by all android phones combined is NOT impressive.

Ordered my 16gb - no hassle this year!!

Will 4s contracts be cheaper when this is released? Or do they fix the price?

As for the upgrade, meh, I wouldn't bother if I was on a 4s, other than screen size I bet you wouldn't notice the difference, is it usually 12 months before the 's' varient is released?

They will (if they haven't already) decrease a bit, but not much. They're already cheaper than they were.

Roughly, yes.

Cheers dude.

As for people slating apple and android for small upgrades, Nokia wins that one with the 800 to 920 upgrade.:p

Indeed, but the main reason the leap is so big with Nokia is because the Microsoft specifications meant the 800 was underpowered (even though it doesn't matter so much with WP).

Aye true, why do you say it doesn't matter with WP?

From a software speed and smoothness perspective, it's always been extremely quick since it was released, even on the lower end hardware.

Comparatively, Android would suffer a bit on older internals.

That must be a joke right?
Nokia comes in with standard setting wireless charging, new screens that don't rely on skin touch only input, a world first for optically stabilising lenses. Tons of feature rich in house made navigation and photo apps.

But yeah sure, Apple and DROID cones in with the usual non innovation that people just need more never used cpu power.

An android phone with the 800's hardware would do ok but not as well. And WP7.5 really doesnt demand much, its more or less a single application OS were 1 thing runs at 1 time, which leads to it be really fast.

I already own a S3, but just watched the Jonathan Ive's iPhone5 video and I sort of want one. Not because I think its functionally better than the S3. But the build and materials used is lovely.

I must admit, the iPhone5 looks amazing and top quailty material, and I bet it feels great in hand. But for me it just iOS that lets it down a bit, I was really hoping for something more, not just new maps, filing some wholes that most OS already have, better iCould, meh boring xD.

He was talking about the One X in that scenario, it's fair to say the S3 and iPhone 5 are tied down to preference for the most part.

I'm not a big fan of iOS, did feel quite dated. Another thing that puts me off is that it will soon be common as muck, everyone will own one. Traveling on the tube and seeing everyone using a iPhone on a bank of seats is a daily occurrence.

I don't get why people are so disappointed. Other than eu LtE support.

What do you actually want in a phone and remover apple is a one device fits most people stance.

The iPhone 5 apart from LtE has everything in it. Not much else can be added. It's like people want change for the sake of change.
It's the same in all phone companies the new lumias are simple evolutions over the last ones and the galaxies are an evolution over their predocesors.

There's very little that ATM can be added to a smart phone, other than incremental speed boasts. Next gen technology for another evolutionary step just isn't ready for mass production at a cost effective point.

Make the design different, change the menu system. These two things have been almost identical for 5 years.

When you buy a new phone for £300 or more you want it to be quite different to your older phone.

Even if they do the same things if the appearance is different and the way to do these things is different then people still won't mind.

Look at the galaxy S 1 to 3. All 3 physical design's varied and the OS changed significantly with each update even if not much substantially it still changed aesthetically.

Why do car makers design a new shape every second year or so?

Because Apple was so far ahead and has done so well people expected truly great things from them and while the changes are mostly improvements this is after the 4S which was a very small update on 4, the competition are also coming along in great leaps and bounds so this also detracts from Apple's thunder.

I disagree with your point about what can be added, you're not being very imaginative if you can't come up with new features. How about a middle tier iPhone? How about a real update to iOS? How about fixing iTunes? How about dual sims? How about a removable battery or removable storage ;)?

My point isn't that these are must have features the platform needs but rather that they didn't try and so people are disappointed that there's nothing fundamentally new or different about it.
