Is OCUK going to get any Asus 7770 2GB's?

+1

get a single card to reduce power consumption, noise, heat and driver problems

Lower end cards are more prone to microstutter in crossfire than higher end cards, plus you have all the driver issues, heat, power consumption, and the fact that a 7950 would probably be faster than 7770 crossfire- especially overclocked given that the 7770 doesn't scale well with overclocking.

the 7770 is such a bad card... its on par with the 6850 which is cheaper anyways!

I have one of these and think they are great.

If youre an enthusiast playing 3d games and want the best settings on biggest monitor then theyre not for you, but its perfect for me - Small monitor, I play less graphical intense games eg rpgs, retro remakes etc and most importantly the low power rating - I live in an area with frequent power cuts and the low power card lets me get an affordable UPS. Plus my last gpu was a Geforce 8600M GT, any card is an improvement :)

As for price, googling for an hour or two is your friend :) I saved about £300 (based on rrp) on my build :)

So it's like 4890 and 5770? The 4890 was faster and cheaper but used more power, but the 5770 performed better in wow but that was about it? 6850 is a bargain atm.

7770 IIRC was generally coming up second against the 6850.
Some games the 7770 can take the lead, Dirt 3 etc

New GCN drivers have made a difference but it still depends on the game or more importantly the API. This is the index from computerbase's recent 2012 roundup:
DX9.jpg

DX11.jpg

So going forward I'd say GCN will do better as more DX11 games come out.

Guess it's a trade-off between power requirements and modernity. Personally I would prefer a 7770 but I imagine that there must be some cases where the 256-bit bus is an advantage. No idea about overclocking since I never saw reviews where the 7770 was overclocked but the 6850 aren't that good clockers either.

Most of those benchmarks are for 1gb versions with 3300ish 3dmark11. The asus one is about 3600ish. Also, the extra 1gb memory will help more texture intense games.

Definately a niche card - either brillant or rubbish, depending on needs. With a lower price itd be a great "temp" card

unless my one good eye has failed me .. those benchmark you just posted dont include teh 6850

Yes, I know they don't. So the question is, how much faster is the 6870 vs 6850. Thing with benchmark is you have to use what's out there. Anandtech bench might include all of them but since they never update their scores there's no point using numbers from the 7770's launch where AMD hadn't figured out how to optimize for GNC.

Let me see, who else does indexes? Well, there's this
http://ht4u.net/reviews/2012/vtx3d_radeon_hd_7770_x_edition_test/index36.php

and techPowerUp's 7750 low profile review

perfrel_1920.gif
.

htu.net also have a 'bench' database:
7770 vs 6850

Why are the benchmarks not game benchmarks?

Never looked at techPowerUp or computerbase? They are indexes made from the average of the games they benched.

They do have the results per game too, for instance:
skyrim_1920_1200.gif

But then we'd either have to concentrate on one game or fill the whole thread with screenshots.

Unfortunately with that at times, it can be a little bit meh. 3 of the results there are from the same game, yet will make you go "Oh look, 3 wins for the 7770"
But I do refer to AnandTech benchmark comparison myself a lot.

But every review has the 6850 down as besting the 7770 pretty much, I'm very doubtful of computerbase where the 7770 is now besting the 6870.
