No, there is a Metro service that runs from the middle of Newcastle to South Shields; I'll catch that if I want to travel the route.

my mums partner is doing it and is trying to raise funds for macmillan plus the fact he enjoys running the weirdo =P

Good luck, a few of my friends are going it (although i hear some of them have dropped out in the past few days, one for a chest infection and the other probably for a stupid reason, like they think the time they put is too short). I was considering it myself, but the idea of giving a... not inconsiderate amount of money to a private healthcare organization put me off.

Fantastic race, Olympic heros shaking hands with every who went past at the start, the Red Arrows streaking overhead, lots of locals handing out drinks all along the course...some of which looked a lot like beer towards the end

Perfect weather too, 15c and a light drizzle throughout.

Hmmm my understanding is that BUPA are a sponsor, not making a profit from it. The entrance fee goes on costs.
