Re: Track pumps.

I go through around 3 Joe Blows a year for various reasons, mainly the non return valve inside.
I've never broken one of the Halfords ones, they're just a bit trickier to lock onto valves, and the pumping action (;)) isn't quite as smooth or as quick as Joe Blows

Anyone got pics of their lightsetup at night - i am looking at getting some kind of torch as apposed to traditional bike light - have been recommended this in the LED torch thread http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180963061540&var=480189064181#ht_10699wt_1214

Interested to see what people have and how they look lit up at night as while its not an expensive setup its still £70 on some imported stuff that dent have many UK reviews once you buy the batteries and charger!

I need a light to light up a B road that is twisty, pitch black and 60mph so i want something that lights the road and alerts drivers - i intend to run another led light pulsing and 2 at the rear!

I've got a Cree T6 based one for winter, I don't have any pictures but there's loads on eBay and they do come in a torch style, mine has a battery pack.

For the back I saw loads of people recommending RSP astrums for an LED light, and Fibre Flares to supplement. I got both and am really happy with both, the Astrum is super bright and the Fibre Flare is very very visible and easy to mount on bike/jersey/rucksack etc.

I've got an Exposure Strada Mk3 on the front and a Hope District 3 with a Fibre Flare at the back. Decent beam patterns and I can get over a weeks commuting without recharging.

What do you do to them?!

Mine is about 3 years old now and still working perfectly. It's used at least twice a week and sometimes needs to pump 150psi. Never had any problems with it.

So I went to Canary Wharf to pick up a Bryton Rider 40 today, and was marked at £135 from £150 but he matched their website price of £110, but the best bit was the HRM strap was in there too! So even if I pick up a speed/cadence sensor later which I probably will its only about £145 for the whole lot. Dead chuffed. Looks good, hope it is. Opinions seems a lot more positive of these than last year's.

Looking to get back into road cycling and have my old Trek 1200 (2006) in for servicing.

However, probably getting:

uVtvb.webp

and using the Trek as a winter/commute bike.

Anybody any experience with the Supersix?

I was literally coming in here to post a question about the bryton 40 - what shop did you buy it from and have you used it yet?

Do you know if garmin cadence sensors work with it?

I got it from Evans, I think they're the only place that are so cheap. Website made no mention of the free heart rate strap either.

I haven't taken it out yet, it's charging at home at the mo so I might take it out tonight, otherwise probably tomorrow. It looks great to me, way nicer than the cheaper square ones. Looks as nice as the edge 500 easily imo.

I'll let you know what I think once I've been out.

You must be abusing them as I've had a Joe Blow nigh on 15 years and it is still going strong. Or were they made better back then?

Even still, there's no way you should be going through 3 pumps a year.

The head of the pumps do knacker after a lot of use. I don't think what Jonny is quoting is that unreasonable for very heavy use in a busy workshop. It may get more than 100 times the average home owner's use, possibly a lot more.

In these cases you don't need to replace the entire pump. They now do a replacement smarthead which only has the one hole for all valves and the great thing about it is that you can use it to double the length of the original hose.

Do any of you have winter cycling shoes, such as the Northwave Celsius or the Shimano Shimano MW80/MW81s? After the misery of numb feet throughout last winter, I am determined not to suffer this year even if it means spending £150 on winter shoes. I can't figure out which ones to go for, however. I'd appreciate hearing any first hand experiences you may have.

By the way; I've tried combining merino socks and neoprene overshoes with my usual shoes. While the overshoes make a big difference, my feet still go numb within an hour when it's below 5C, hence my research into winter cycling shoes.

I have these which were recommended last winter on here. Can't fault them but I was lucky enough to pick them up for ~£40 in Merlin's sale. Warm and waterproof and a handy spare pair for when my other shoes get an unexpected soaking too.

Edit: You can get them from Merlin now for about £40 - they're on quidco too.
