6850 to 7850 worthy upgrade?

or just jumpin in and get a 7950? is it worth the extra £100?
how much more future proof is the 7950 agaisnt the 7850?
how long at a guess do u think a 7950 would last before upgrade time?
i have the money to get one just have to justify the price/longevity to myself

Personally, I would get the 7850, and when it starts struggling they'll probably be around the £100 mark, get another and crossfire it - Should give it more against the 7950. Likewise, the more expensive option would be to get the 7950 and crossfire that when it runs out of puff. Either of those single solutions should see you into 2015 imo.

wow, i was just going to ask the same question!
Looking at various performance comparisons it seems a worthy upgrade- not outstanding, but enough to up some graphics settings.
Seeing the answers on here, i think i'll go for a 7850 myself.

upgrade it,i noticed coming from a 5870 to a 7850,much much better temps and no fan noise at full gaming load either, can be easily overclocked to improve things even further

Yes it's a decent upgrade.

Decent but not amazing ;) Could possible underwhelm, depending on OP's expectations. Will get a nice FPS boost at least.

However, the 7850 isn't a card you can expect to run max settings in the latest games, or let you crank the AA up, even at 1080p.

7950 is a safer bet!

tempted to go up from a 6850 .. only had it 3 months 1080p gaming .... but pretty sure id have to change my psu ... not sure a tagan 530w will be enough .. and my mobo will be a limiting factor as well

EDIT ......found teh model .. old thread post i did in 2006 lol ....it's a :-

Tagan TG530-U15 530W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU (CA-008-TG)

and teh blurb that came with it :-

- Two separate +12V rails for best performance and universal support for all ATX standards.
- Transformable mainboard connectors for PC & Server
- Two EMI-shielded power connectors for PCI Express & VGA graphic cards
- Four Serial ATA power connectors for SATA hard disks
- 120 mm fan for whisper quiet operation

Well after weeks of debating and it annoying the hell out of me and trying to decide between the two i started to go mad so decided to bite the bullet and bought the Msi 7950.

Would rather have a more powerful and rewarding upgrade and just hoping the 7950 will last longer (£100 worth longer!) than the 7850.

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice.

No point buying something if you're not 100% happy with it, and sound like you wouldn't have been happy with a 7850 :)

I think you might the right call.
