hi

i was about to buy the 56u, but its now out of stock :(

should i jump up to the (newer) 65u? usb3 and 450mbps on the 5Ghz band are the main improvements...

i have found this as a positive chat from an asus rep....

and this warning about overheating...
http://bchantech.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/review-asus-rt-n65u-router.html

getting hot means its taking power, so what's the spin, are 2 cpu's on the 65u going to push the heat and make it unreliable?

Thanks

Dan

66u is also wall mountable, so it is tempting!

but is it worth the extra cash; £85 to £125 is ~£40 or 50%

mmmmm

this is for bt infinity 2 btw, currently getting 75mb from bt home hub 3, but poor speeds when busy etc... plus I want the extra features

Can you afford the RT-N66U?

I was looking at the N56U last week too mate as it was on that uk deal site for about £80. Problem was it didn't offer much room for future compatibility (i.e. IPv6 support) - so I opted for the N66U which I picked up for £114.

The N66U is probably the best out of the lot - due to its high uptake amongst the enthusiasts community (Merlin and DD-WRT) with their custom firmware. The AC66U is overkill tbh - as the AC wireless standard is still currently draft and will see another revision of chipsets from manufacturers before it stabilises.

Gunna be using the N66U with my Infinity 2 setup aswell once BT have installed the fibre modem - they just moved my phone line over today, so fingers crossed it shouldn't be long now! router due somepoint during this week and is highly recommended from the reviews I've read - only complaints were around bugs which have long since been fixed.

Do you have any wireless kit that can take advantage of the extra speed on 5GHz?

I recently bought the N56U. The cost of the N66U was just too much for me to consider.

All my wifi capable kit (tablet, mobile, netbook) seems to be 2.4 GHz and none of it's particularly fast, although there was a definite improvement over my old Netgear router.

Problem was it didn't offer much room for future compatibility (i.e. IPv6 support)

Not true. The N56U does have IPv6 support. You just need a newer firmware, or one of the WRT ones

yea, that was a typo, my bad..

still not made my mind up... going to think about it again tomorrow.

if a mod sees this feel free to correct the thread title to be "N56u vs n65u"

Dan
Thread title confused me...

I just bought a 56U though, so interested in the custom firmwares now!
