Armada of British naval power massing in the Gulf as Israel prepares an Iran strike

Iran have the capability to retaliate directly. They are within striking distance of any Israeli city.

Yes, but there isn't a dog's chance they will do that. If they did then the US would wipe out their military capability - exactly what Israel is hoping for. Same for the stories about blocking/mining the Straights.....doing so would result in the Iranian navy being wiped out in short order. Iran won't do a thing - they'll claim their nuclear installations survived (which they might well do) and that Israel's bombs just hit schools and orphanages. They know Israel wants them to retaliate, so that's exactly what they won't do.

Any initial strike from the US or Israel would likely take out most of Iran's military infrastructure, the most likely thing that would survive an initial strike would be smaller mobile units so the threat to Israel would be massively reduced

ISRAEL was only recognised by america in 1948 and is a puppy of AMERICA. Come on IRAN

I know it's cool to hate on Israel these days, but seriously? Iran is an oppressive dictatorship run by religious fanatics. If it's a toss-up between Israel and Iran, I'll take the lesser of two evils any day.

Iran is not half as bad as the media would like to make out. If you are an Arab (and Jewish in some cases) Iran might well be more to your liking.

Israel is a puppy of Britain. It was the Britain's reward to the Jewish lobby for bringing America in to WW2.

Like most things the root cause of the problem is Britain.

Israel-Palestine.. Britain's fault.
Pakistan-India... Britain's fault.
Afghanistan.... Britain's fault.
Myanmar... Britain.
Most of Africa's problems... Britain.

that's always been an odd one for me, that Iran has the largest Jewish population of any Muslim country (also protects them in its constitution and sets aside a Jewish seat in its parliament)

(obviously the Jewish population in question don't tend to be Zionists)

They're still run by a set of ****s as the student protests showed. Then again a large % of the population are less than 30 there I doubt the current theocracy will last another generation.

A little perspective please. Iran is a nation where converting from Islam to another (or no) faith is punishable by the death penalty. And opposing the death penalty, is punishable by the death penalty. Freedom of religion is (supposedly) protected by the UN charter.

lolkwerk

Israel bashing is the new fashion
Pakistan and India are fighting over the Kashmir area, nothing to do with Britain
Afghanistan? That area has had problems for a VERY long time.
Burma's perpetual civil war started *after* Britain left. Maybe we should have stayed?
Africa's problems ... just how?

He's actually pretty right, no need for Kwerk bashing now. :)

Yes, many problems were there before hand, but Britain's influence/Empire/colonial ambitions/rapid decolonisation has exacerbated quite a few problems.

Tell me, will there ever be a time when Africa's problems will be laid at the feet of Africans ?

10 years after colonialism ?

20 ?

50 ?

100 ?

Several very successful African states under British rule descended into massive financial and social problems pretty much the day after Britain left so obviously its our fault and even if they are still horrid ****holes 5000 years from now due to a complete inability to get over their own problems and stop seeing themselves as victims of a long dead empire.

I still blame the Romans for my graphics card not holding a decent memory clock.

Formation of Isreal was down to the UN general assembley. Britain can't bear the brunt of that alone.

But how long is Britain going to be blamed for what happens around the world?

Most of what is happening is about territory (India-Pakistan) or power. like pretty much any other war in the history of mankind. Even if the British Empire never existed these things would still be happening, as they were happening before colonisation.

Only if you ignore the Balfour Declaration/how it was one of our mandated territories, etc.

You mean the declaration that made it clear nothing would be done by Britain to impede on the rights of the people already there?

Like I said though, Britain cannot take the brunt of that alone.

The type 45 is for the most part useless when alone, But as part of a fleet it has an incredibly impressive sensor capability and acts as a missile/air defence platform for the fleet., projecting a protected "Bubble" around other vessels. Defensively, it is incredibly capable and currently the best destroyer going. America have plans to build their own similar vessel to fill this role.

Air craft carriers bring the pain, but the destroyers and frigates keep the carriers safe.

I say awesome!!!

I work in Saudi Arabia and if it all kicks off the company I work for will if by all accounts of what has happened in the past start throwing money at us to keep us in the region to help with the war :D

Rock On !

It (and the carrier to be fair) may be the last truly impressive warship we build for some time, changed priorities for the forseeable

hope that money comes with a supply of these
