Hey guys,

I have an Intel i5 750 System with a Gigabyte P55 UD5 motherboard and I am looking to upgrade my ageing Nvidia 8800GT video card.

I mostly just play Counter Strike GO, and actually I was quite surprised just how well my old 8800GT handled it at 1900 x 1200  But I noticed a little slow down during really intense battles.

My first question is, since I'm not a hardcore hardware enthusiast could I get away with buying another old 8800Gt and running it in SLI to boost frame rates?

If you don't think that's a great idea, whats the best new card between £150 - £180? Whats the deal with Amd vs Nvidia these days, back in the day one was always considered superior to the other - is this still the case?

I like the idea of having another Nvidia card should I choose to upgrade, but im open to suggestions - thanks! :D

Thankyou - and how are the Amd drivers these days? Another major factor for me is System Stability since Im a freelance developer.

I personally haven't had any problems with AMD drivers on my last 3 AMD cards. The latest 12.8 drivers are much better than the previous ones- shame AMD took so long to get them released but they're here now so that's all that matters :)

A couple of questions.

Are you likely to overclock your new video card?

Do you wish to stick with Nvidia?

If you are willing to overclock, and you don't mind changing to AMD the 7850 is a superb card for the money at the moment, however if you don't overclock then the Nv660 is probably a better bet.

No Im not likely to overclock :) I just want to slap it in and use it stock :) And to be honest, yeah id like to stick to NV just cause its familiar.

The 660 is a slightly faster than a 7850 at stock so you made a good choice.
Personally I would have gone for the EVGA one but they are all good.

Thanks guys - I always liked Asus stuff so im sure I will be pleased with it :) I wont be fannying around with it, just slap it in and go. I only play Counter Strike GO anyway lol :)

we seem to be having the same dilema that we used to have with the 6870 and 560ti these days! haha ;)

Its always hard choosing, but as long as its stable and plays my fave game Im a happy camper :) I notice Asus are still using wonderful components like they used to back in the day.

The extra 4GB DD3 should be sweet also - although I cant says Ive noticed my system stutter even with all the windows I have open during the working day!

To be honest you can find driver nightmare tales for both companies. Personally I've had more trouble in recent years with Nvidia than AMD, and plenty of other people will have had the opposite experience. I don't buy into the whole "AMD drivers are ****, Nvidia are solid" thing myself.

Me neither..I know both have pros and cons, Ive just found NV ones to suit me personally. Thats the great thing about choice! Its a Win-Win for consumers ;)
