In the area where I live Orange and T-Mobile are useless as you can't get a signal anywhere which means as Three use Orange for 2g their useless here too, this just leaves O2 and Voda both of which are okay. However a friend recently pointed out to me that Tesco use O2's network so should have the same coverage but are actually cheaper than O2.

I looked and he's right they are cheaper, can somebody please explain how they can pay to piggy back off O2 and still be cheaper than then? I just don't get it :S

I guess this is a serious question but really? There aren't many instances in life where you ever purchase anything that isn't resold. Do you think Tesco pay O2 retail consumer prices or something?

2/3G is for internet only that's how :p

Sorry but no, 1G was the original analogue mobile phone network we had in the UK, 2G (GSM) was the digital one that replaced it in the late 90's adding stuff like SMS. The have been other evolutions like 2.5G (GPRS) and 2.75G (EDGE) but in all you can't make a modern cellphone call in the UK without using at least 2G.

twe, 3UK DO use orange 2G, but you have to enable national data roaming and depending on your tariff, that'll cost you a left testicle just to load the OcUK front page!!!

Same reason that Talk Talk etc. are cheaper than BT. Their happier to except a smaller margin for your custom.

GifGaf don't have customer facing staff, thats a huge amount of ££ saved.
