HD7850 + 1080p = BF on ultra?

ah overclocking. i will cross that bridge when i get there. and when it does i can see it being a very frustrating day indeed. i can see me losing my mind. im not very good when it comes to this stuff. my cpu also has to be overclocked.

No, not if you want it smooth.

I'd advise no higher than 2xaa with that card and thats assuming you're running with a hefty overclock on both the core (1200) and the memory.

EDIT

If you're happy with no AA, then yes of course you can run ultra, but not full ultra which includes 4xaa.

im assuming 2xaa is a setting on the card, i have never had a gaming pc. ive always had consoles. i have a new machine sititng here less a gpu.

i was looking at a 7950, accually i kinda have my heart set on one but for a change i though i would accually try and save some money instead of blowing it on something lol.

Ultra is an in game bf3 setting that requires 4xaa however you can tweak ultra in game to make it 2xaa or 0xaa.

haha.

agh dont know what to get.

the 7850 wont give me enough.the 7950 is a tad expensive and the 7970 it far to expensive.

If you want the full ultra experience you need a 7970/680.

However if you can make do with no aa a 7850 will suffice.

If you want 2xaa you want a 7950/670.

My 6950 can run it on 4xAA Ultra around 30fps multiplayer with no overclock so I can't see why a highly clocked 7870 wouldn't be playable.

My settings are slightly toned down and i only use2xaa on my lightning, i need those frames!!

@LtMatt have you answered my question yet on your site?(nickolpst)

If you find that playable of course, however i don't find below 45fps acceptable.

Its not smooth, especially when aiming down the sight.

I didn't understand it Nick, could you start a thread over there?

My overclocked 7950 (1100/1575 stock volts) can do BF3 Ultra & 4xAA @1080p and have dips to 40-45fps but runs smooth anyway with average 55-60fps with vsync.. thats playable to me and most ppl will say the same.

I find this curious as people on here are always banging on that a 7950 is a star buy in comparison to a 670... but a stock 670 will hold nigh on 60FPS, certainly not dips to 40-45... and that's before some of the more extreme 670 overclocks I've seen

BF3 on ultra is a basic requirement for me and this comment makes me think twice about recommending a 7950

people always keep saying a 7850 = GTX 580 yet experiences here also seem to say a 7850 can't hold decent frames which a 580 can... odd odd

That's in BF3, it has always performed better with nvidia cards.
