Where to put new (bigish) centre speaker?

Had a similiar issue, I have monsterous centre speaker (Mission 79c), I got a Premier Mounts tabletop stand for my 50" panasonic to lift it up higher, did not want to wall mount, works nicely.

This is the one I got http://www.mounts.com/product?product=PSD-TTS-B, it is built like a tank!

You may need to do some quick drawings and measurements to ensure you will get clearance.

£150+ though just to run a center?
Your center is indeed a lovely speaker. 8.9kg apparently. I have a Mission m7c2 center which I would guess weighs about 7kg and I have it sat on a shelf as mentioned above. Has been there for over a year now and works great. I would have no hesitation placing your one on there either only it is quite a bit deeper I think. In terms of weight though I think up to 10kg would be fine, but it would start to pull the panel backwards beyond that. You can always brace it against the wall anyway. This is really hard to explain without pics so I will try to get some up.

EDIT: Other benefit of shelf above TV (personal preference) is I can't stand TVs mounted too high. For me, when I sit on the sofa I like the center of the TV line or 2/3rds the way up line to be level in height with my eyes.

It isn't too big for me just too big for my stand, it looks huge just because I never seen anything like this in another house. I just didn't expect it to be like that! All good though!

I don't think I really like the look of a wall mount without a stand underneath. It's too floaty. Personal preference there, and it will look a lot smaller, I'm only a few feet from the tv so wall mount I guess would add a lot of distance as a percentage.

The centre stands do look nice, but think that's more for if you don'thave a unit .

The shelf option is something I thought about but the speaker is about 10kg.. The box weight was 11kg.

The elevated stand is pricey.. Really pricey.. But may be an option, right now the tv is almost a bit low or just right, but I would need a stand that provides 20cm clearance!

Atm I'm between elevated stand and overhead shelf.
 
Why not put the speaker on the bottom shelf and then move the avr to the other shelf.

What you could also do is find a n shaped stand to put on top of the cabinet and then put the tv on that and the speaker under the stand.

Get something like that but without the draw but that fits the center speaker and then put that on top of the stand with the tv on top of it.stand on a stand, inception stand.

I actually put my 24" dell monitor on top of my center speaker directly which sits on my desk. But i think your tv might be a bit big to do that.
 
Yes that is what I will do first, at least temporarily. It is really far to low

The n stand is a good shout probably the cheapest too. Yeah the tv can'treally go on the ccentre to heavy and risky!
 
Build a box for your Telly to stand on rising it up a tad further than the height of your speaker then stand the speaker in the middle of the telly in front of the box, To ***** ? :D

going back a few inchs makes a willy look smaller, not a tv.

Raising the TV up actually makes it look bigger

Your eye level should be below the centre of the screen, that doesnt look the case from your knees in pic.

Yes it is too low atm really, it's OK lying on the sofa but sitting not so good.
 
It looks like you've got 3-4 inches above the amp you can play with - if you dropped the middle shelf lower could you fit the speaker in? Might just be a case of drilling a few holes in the sides of the stand for the lugs.

I would say 2 inchs above the amp and you want clearance to get rid of the heat

I was going to get a Nautilus but they go for a bit more than i want to spend.

Still, my centre is about the same size as OP's I cba to mount to TV so it's slightly off centre it is. I just sit myself centre to the speaker rather than center to the TV :p

Yeah... I always fancied the 802's but I could never justify the cost nor the space I'd need for them, lottery win and I can get a house to fit them. ;)

I'm going to need to wall mount my new telly to fit the center channel, kinda annoying because I've got the TV at the perfect height and to clear the center it'll need to go up a bit.

Unfortunately the unit is one piece with the glass sandwiched between the blocks. In other words.. Non adjustable

The stand is great quality, and the flexibility of adjusting TV height as well was good. I was actually going to build a black box out of wood to lift the TV up instead but opted for the stand. But yes it is a lot to spend on a solution.

To be honest I will get a lot of use of the stand in future not just for this application. I didn't want to put the centre underneath as well because I filled the stand with devices, and did not want to mount the TV on the wall either.
 
It looks like you've got a 42GT30 (or similar) which is what I have, so another thing you'll need to be aware of is that the TV remote sensor is at the bottom of the tv.
I have a small centre speaker and still couldn't mount it in front of the TV.

I ended up building a shelve that attaches to the wall mounting brackets on the back of the tv, so that the front and centre speakers are now above the tv. I don't think that my solution would be strong enough for the speaker you have though. If you could make something stronger and if you have enough clearance, it could be an option for you.
 
I have exactly the same problem, my new MA GX350 just doesn't fit on my stand like my GSLCR does, so having a rethink, I was looking at raising the height between the shelves, but would need some kind of extensions.
 
Dont know if you are interested but I am very soon selling my Atacama Equinox AVI Stand - its an awesome stand that supports your plasma at your chosen height, then has loads of space for the centre / other kit below it.

I live is Essex it needs to be collected due to the size / make up of it

Its seriously solid even with a 30odd kilo Kuro on there - you can move it easily on carpet even with the tv still on
You can tilt the screen easily and you can rotate it as well easily.
Great stand

I have all the original instructions / screws / stuff you need - its another option if you dont want to wall mount / have the tv further away.
This way it stays where it is, but goes up enough to get your centre underneath.

Even better its easy to velco a bias light on the back for that awesome glow effect which if you use the right colour helps your eye focus and improves image quality ;)

Hmmm, what you doing with your GSLCR?. I have GS10s but at the time I couldn't stretch to the matching centre and got the RSLCR instead. Although it does fit extremely well in the massive new solid oak cabinet I recently bought.

looks like i might have to go with the stand, although looking at the above pic the tv looks nice on the wall but i would have to hide the power and HDMI cable (only 2 cables) it would actually be cheaper too, but my stupid model makes it slightly more difficult as the HDMI cable is on the side of the tv again, my unit is fairly wide, wider than the above i think

the tv is the 46gt30 but the remote is not an issue, i dont even know where it is. I only use it with a HTPC so after the tv is switched on i dont need to use the tvs sensor regularly. Usually keep the tv in THX mode as i like it best

afraid i wont be going for the stand you have for sale, i really like the one i have now, it was too much money just to get rid of and i spent a lot of time looking for something i like

only thing stopping me from wall mount is the cable and tv looking like a 42 instead of a 46 inch
