Just got the game.
Installed, downloading updates currently (takes ages, 1MB/s used to be rapid)


I think I'm going to start of with a Elementalist Sylvari.

only classes that kill me stupidly fast are thiefs.

pretty much stunned > dead

no time to dodge and im in all exotics, ive tried with toughness+conditon damage gear and outright ap/crit and it makes no difference.

theres a thief in our guild that has full exotics , stupidly expensive runes and 2x spark daggers that just rapes people in wvw
 
If he's using 2 daggers, then chances are he's a condition damage thief, toughness does absoltely nothing against bleed/poison.

You need vitality to counter conditons and most importantly conditon removal.

Im in full exotics also on my warrior, with 3500 armour, 25k hp, I have 4 skills that remove condtions, I just facepalm when a thief attacks me.
 
find a way to stun/immobilize the theif too, their dual dagger skill 3 (the one that jumps over the target and is also the one they spam for the bleeding stack) makes them evade your attacks so if you stick him to the ground he''ll just be a squishy little punch bag for you and your team :)

Good choice, but make sure you don't concentrate on a single element or weapon. I recommend picking up and holding onto one of every type of weapon you can use - staff, sceptre, dagger and focus - and unlocking every skill for each of the four elements and each weapon combo as soon as you can. Don't forget that daggers can be used in either hand.

ColEx I have 278 hours played in total. Each character 1-80 took 27 hours (lowest) - 66 hours (highest) but at this point can realistically level a character 1-80 within a day as CM Story mode is now giving a level each 11 minutes if my group runs it (they buffed dungeon experience globally a couple of days ago) and I am not someone who levels alts even though may look like that, had a hard time deciding my class in this game given they don't follow traditional class system :p I had started on a Ranger, to Warrior, before settling on Mesmer

Do some people have nothing else to do? I'm genuinely shocked that anyone would put in such a huge amount of time per day playing GW2, don't get me wrong I enjoy it but I really can't play it more than a couple of hours a day!

Kudos for people with the determination to do it, but I just find myself wanting to do something else! :)

I'm currently farming for my legendary, (I very rarely roll alts, I like having one good character) and I've got to say with the way they keep nerfing the options for faming, I'm considering just going totally casual and playing a few hours a week. The karma alone is about 400 hours worth of gameplay. And for those of you who say "Legendarys are meant to be unique", yeah they will be for the first few months, then everyone will be stacking up their mats and stuff and then after 6 months they'll start being more and more common. Then in a year everyone will have one.

UPDATE:

Looks like my key is still valid, tried to type it in and it said this key is used by a different email address.

So looks like my account got hacked and changed my email address!!

What the hell like! On a good note looks like i can now play GW2 when i get it back... WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As others have said, Desolation or Gunnar's Hold.

If you go on Gunnar's Hold, send a mail to Meepeh (me) in game and I'll invite you to the guild next time I'm on.

I'm not on much at the moment though, I'm waiting for people to catch up so we can play together more.

im around 326 hours on my main :p

not all of it is active though it depends whats going on at work (semi retired, i just look busy in the office and keep people on their toes)

You're elementalist, a ranged class, I am guardian a melee class. You dodge away when people approach you to get to melee range, I on the other hand approach everybody and very happy if they come in range themselves.

People already helped me out, by telling me to stay range when I see greatsword warrior and they did it without sounding like an donkey.

read the manual all classes can do all ranges.
all classes can do all traits.
No to little skill is common of all the complainers and whiners.
 
are you running msi afterburner or anything else that has an on screen display/overlay ?

you could also try deleting the settings file thats in the gw2 folder @ "my documents"
