BMW owners - have you ditched Run Flats?

My Cooper S has Continental Sport Contact 3 run flats on at the moment (205/45/R17). They are a huge improvement over the Pirelli eufori's which were on before but I'm still going to change to non run flats some time next year.

Someone I know bought a 335d M Sport 3 years ago, wasn't made aware that because it had run-flats, that they were not repairable in the case of a puncture.

Not true, I have had a puncture repaired on my X6 with no problems.

He enquired about retrofitting normal tyres but was told that it would void the warranty, surely not?

Again not true, asked before I put mine on my e92 and the the warranty is not a problem. It is also the cure to stop wheels cracking, but, if you are stranded due to a puncture BMW assist will charge for recovery.

Sounds like a shady dealership then!

I kept run flats on my 5 series and I have run flats on my current X5. I got 4 new tyres as part of the negotiation so I am not going to chuck out over £1000 worth of tyres.

I haven't yet as the car is still under BMW warranty and Im not sure how they'll be about it. But with the car needing two rear tyres soon at £660 for a pair, im looking into a second set of wheels and non run-flat tyres...

My fronts really need replacing but the rears still have a little left. Am I a bad man for wanting to put non run flats on now, and then swap the rears out a little later on?

a bit of a old thread but I thought I would resurrect it to tell you guys about my experience.

I received a nice puncture on my rear run flat tyre, I monitored it for two weeks to double check it was that with the error codes displayed on my console.

So I book it into a place to get the run flat replaced with another run flat, I was wondering should I replace it or replace all four but I thought what are the chances of me getting another puncture.

This was booked in for Friday and the garage phoned to say they had the wrote tyre and it would arrive next day. So I said ok and left the car with them (I was thinking they probably ordered the wrong tyre as BMWs have small and larger tyres as most are not the same).

So on Saturday I have the tyre replaced and like most rookie garages they didn't use a protector and ended up scratching / cracking my alloy, I drive it down the road and POW the warning light comes on.

So I assume no chance in hell I can get another puncture and the car is learning that its a new wheel etc.

So I drive back home on the motorway (30 mins drive) and check the tyres to make sure they added right air etc, I find my front bloody tyre is <150 and the rear which I got replaced was a little down!!!!!

To cut a long story short I had a nail through my run flat at the front. how convenient when the garage ordered a front tyre instead of the rear!!!

So now I have found the tyre to replace my run flats.

Goodyear Eagle F1 2, it has cracking reviews as I was wondering to go michelin tyres, bridge stone or continentals but after reading reviews the good year which I didn't see as a brand up there with Michelin was walking all over them.

So if you replace consider good year eagle f1 2's on all 4s the efficient grip performance is an alternative (not as good) but you may have issues with the rears. I went for Ys rather than the standard Ws.

Came to £524 fitted inc VAT!!!

Now I need to save up for the space saver for my 3 series which is over £300!!! and need to sell 3 run flats, 1 brand new and the other two partially worn.

Hopefully a bit way off still, but does anyone have any 'key facts' about runflats -> standards for BMWs.

What i'm after is any suspension changes, handling differences, grip differences, etc - or is it simply just cheaper, and quieter?
