Brand new 7970, already opened and accessories missing???.

It's still a lottery with the MSI 7970 OC too:

Best clocks stable are 1100/1400@1174v, just your luck, I had it with my 6950's, no luck with two 7970's(WF lasted a day) and one 7950 IceQ(too noisy@stock).

Tommy are you sure you can't get more from it? That seems exceptionally average.

When testing for stability on these cards ive found as soon as you hit a problem, like a crash, a driver reset, you need to restart the computer before attempting any other changes otherwise the result of your tweaking will not work correctly.

Your card with a high leakage should be able to accept volts up to 1.3, so whilst you will have slighter higher temps you have the potential to get higher clocks simply from the amount of voltage you can add before hitting the OCP. This will come at the cost of a higher temp/voltage when at stock or overclocked though.

I haven't had a real crack at it yet, just decided to keep it as I would be looking at almost ~£45 down the drain in return postage by the time I sent this one back too.

I'm aware that there is a need for a restart as well matt but thanks anyway, it's looking like when it goes over 60c that's when it goes belly up, but I'll probably have a better tweak when I get bored as it's pretty fast@1080p anyway.

It could end up cheaper to be done with it and get a 680 ;) Come to the dark side...

If I did, it would have been a 670, I couldn't notice any difference between the 70/50 in the slightest, so I don't imagine it will be any different with the 70/80 either.

The extra £100 on top of the price for the pleasure of Nvidia 3D makes it all that much harder for me to jump ship though, seriously thought about it before though as I'm always willing to go between brands.

:)

Only joking ya bud and I hear ya on the 3D front. I am sure you will get the best out of the 7970 and never look back :)

I wish i could get my hands on tommy's 7970 just to see how far i could push it.

I might pop round later tommy. :p
