iPhone 5 Detail Today

Those are indeed some mighty benchmarks.

But I just wonder what all that power can be used for ?

This 'might' sound slightly flamey and fanboyish, but it's a genuine query.

iOS6 still doesn't multi-task does it? I mean you can't play your MP3's while writing a document and then open your emails and download an attachment while someone is bluetoothing you or whatever.

Also is it that surprising that some of the benchmarks are so high when it's throwing around less pixels in a lower resolution and lower PPI than my almost 7 month old Xperia S?

Like I say, I don't mean to fall on one side of the fence or the other.
Just pointing out that OMG PWERZORZ doesn't necessarily equate to a better and glossier user experience.

Just my 2 cents ;)

Was thinking of installing DOS 6.1 on my i7 rig - pretty sure that would fly too :)

Leg pulling aside they are some impressive numbers. If apple can minimise the duration of the Maps debacle then theyll clearly be onto a (mostly) deserved winner.

Apps.

It sucks iOS can't fully multitasking but that scenario doesn't use using much compute power and it's rare you'll want to run something intensive in the background.

No, it isn't surprising. The Xperia S uses old hardware from 2011 and the iPhone 6 is faster than the PS Vita.
(Browser benchmarks are largely software driven btw, the current batch of Android/WP8 performance flagships will get similar scores)

Yes, yes it does. :) Although we're not far off.

Politics of envy mostly I think.

Although entertaining it is making these forums quite boring - with people trotting out the same circular arguments day after day.

Why would people be envious? It's not any (or at least much) more expensive than other high-end smart phones? Pretty much anyone can have an iPhone if they so wish.

I agree there is a lot of stupid hate around Apple, but I don't think envy has anything to do with it.

I love how the people keep thinking it's envy, i could buy a iPhone tomorrow but i don't because i dislike Apple as a company and their closed eco system. But i still recommend Apple products to people if i feel it's the right thing for them.

I do running. I use Endomondo and Runkeeper both running at the same time in the background tracking my runs via GPS (I have a proper reason for using both at same time). I also have music playing during my runs.

Would this not be possible on the iPhone?

** Genuine question (quite sad people have to do this on "both sides" of this argument so that they realise it is not a dig but hey-ho)

In respect to the "envy" argument put forward - I really don't think so. As mentioned, anyone that has went out and bought any high end Android phone either SIM free or on contract is in a position to buy an iPhone if they choose to so it's not envy.

It's a ridiculous argument and, N111ck, you would be saying the same if anyone said "iFans hate Android because of envy".

So what apps will the iphone5 run that the 4/4S wont ?
None, because it wouldn't be allowed in the app store.

Ergo, new processor is pointless.

There were games that looked noticeably different and features that were only available on the 4S compared to the 4 and 3GS when the 4S came out making this point very much mute. Real Racing and Infinity Blade come to mind, there were others.

iPhone 5 only apps are allowed also you just limit your market by doing so.

I've heard Anandtech mention that the fly-over maps run at a constant 60fps on ip5 whereas on the 4s it was not even close to being as smooth.

And stuff like processing a 28MP panoramic picture etc etc.

Benchmarks should generally always be better on the latest iPhone because that's the only phone Apple make for their mobile operating system, so no surprise really.

Also it gets beaten in nearly every graphics test the optimus g is in. The sunspider tests could be down to a different java engine and not the actual hardware, meaning future releases of chrome could make the current android crop faster?

That must be a joke right?
Nokia comes in with standard setting wireless charging, new screens that don't rely on skin touch only input, a world first for optically stabilising lenses. Tons of feature rich in house made navigation and photo apps.

But yeah sure, Apple and DROID cones in with the usual non innovation that people just need more never used cpu power.

Stick, wrong end. I meant they win in a good way.

Is it possible to buy an iPhone on pay as you go, except.. pay for the actual phone over a certain amount of months?

I don't use my phone enough (have any friends) to get a contract. But I don't really wanna pay out £500~ if I can just pay for it each month.

You can buy through finance off of the Apple store. Buying it with a credit card would probably be cheaper though.
