Insuring someone else's car

Having recently sold my Clio 182 I am looking for a replacement. I'm not going to rush into buying a new car and my brother has kindly offered to lend me his Corsa C.

I haven't cancelled my Clio's insurance yet. I paid for it upfront with Admiral and it's still ticking over.

Is it best to insure the Corsa by ringing Admiral and changing the car or pay for it with one of these temp insurance companies??

Unfortunately as I am only 24, they won't give me drive other car cover.

Depends how long you plan to use it for? Temp cover is usually a month, tops.

I had a similar problem recently, and found that my insurerer wouldn't cover me as the main driver ona car that I didn't own (or was the registered keeper of) - so check first.

Due to the cost/insurance complication, I eneded up buying a £500 car, transferring my poilicy to that, and using it in the meantime until I found something else. Means I had plenty of time to find a replacement.

Change it over - I didn't think you were allowed to have a policy on a car you have no actual insurable interest in, such as your Clio that is sold and you presumably have no access to?

The Clio has gone. Admiral will let me insure a car that's not actually mine then??

Well why don't you phone them and ask them? I don't see any reason why they wouldn't insure you on your brothers car.

I can see why they might be unhappy that you still have an active policy on a car you sold though :p

Admiral will happily suspend your policy once you've sold a car or don't need to insure it, and reinstate it later - sending you a pro rata refund and you still acrue NCB. Why are you wasting money paying for insurance on a car you don't have?

I only sold it a couple of days ago. I just need a way of getting to work and back until I find a car of my own, hence changing the car from the Clio over to my brothers.

Your brother will have to stop his insurance first as admiral won't allow you to insure a car that is insured elsewhere. They will allow you to insure that you are not the registered keeper or legal owner of.
