As above really.
I'm having a discussion at the moment with my wife about how much to give our 6 year old for lost teeth.
She lost her first tooth about 2 months ago and we gave her £1. She lost her second today and I have suggested 50p from now on. My wife thinks I'm being tight!

What is the consensus on what is appropriate? We are average earners, neither breadline nor affluent so it's not a case of what we can afford. Rather it's a case of what is about the right amount that is a treat that isn't spoiling her or devaluing what money is.

In before the '1st world problem' comments. No it's not particularly important, but I'm curious to know if it's me that is out of touch or my wife! I have a history of being Scrooge-like!

So, how much (if anything) do your kids get?

We have been giving £1 for small teeth and £2 for any of the big 4 front teeth.

You are being tight....

The going rate on the Tooth-Market is a quid....;)

Besides She is six, she probably thinks she an buy the world with 10p so I wouldn't worry about teaching her the relative value of money just yet.

£1 is a fair going rate for a tooth.

It would be hard to explain depreciation to a 6 year old :D and as she already had £1 before, make it £1 a time. It's a treat level of cash and she can't exactly go and blow it all down the local emporium on frivolous goodies without taking you anyway.

I used to get 20p (This was about 19 - 20 years ago). My mum wasn't very well off so I had to make do. Pocket money was ~50p a week too

Mine was 50p I think but when my dad chipped one of my front teeth with a frizbee when I was about 10 I got £20...how they hell do they work that out?

I always got a quid, just make sure she doesn't end up losing 300 teeth.

I'd say £1, but with VAT, Income Tax and a Tooth Wealth Tax, tell her that if she keeps losing teeth she'll be in debt until secondary school.
