I managed to put my graphics card into my pc today. I installed the drivers and quickly set to loading up Dawn of war 2. Not the most demanding game but where as before i had to run it on lowest settings, i thought id be able to crank it up to ultra and run it good/very good so did the in game performance test. Trying to remember off the top of my head the resuly were roughly.

AVERAGE >> 30 fps.
HIGHEST >> 80 fps.
LOWEST >> 8fps!!

I can tell as well, occasionally is a mammoth bit of lagg.

I tryed the same on low settings and the lowest was very similiar again. I wracked my brain checked everything was in ok. Re-downloaded latest drivers. Tryed it again and the same.

I downloaded Sleeping Dogs and loaded it up. didn't get more than 2 mins into game as i was in a rush to turn around get out the house and get on with family life. It was a bit laggy also.

Before i go any further i'll tell you my specs.:-

-Quad Core Intel (nk more than this sorry and im away from my pc again for few days)
-2 x 1GB Corsair DDR2.
-Win 7 64 bit
-450w PSU
-HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB.

I really am no expert, I feel a nice sense of achievment at building the above from scratch with bits given to me (apart from GPU) but its all trial and error. I checked my hardware and felt a bit inadequate at discovering 2 x 1GB DDR2 ram. I'd just assumed a few weeks ago when i was given the Motherboard with ram in it that it was 2 x 2GB.

With my not so expert computer brain i came to conclusion that the 2 x 1 GB ram is simply not enough for the computer when its running games as well. Thoughts, am i right ?

At this point in my thought process i had 15 minutes left before i had to get out the door. I knew once id left the house that i'd be away from my pc for another few days and would have to get some ram while out... Why are prices of DDR2 more exspensive that DDR3!? It makes me want to get DDR3 rather than buy DDR2 considering what you can get for money compared. Will i be that far behind ??

All i'll be able to afford is 2 x 2GB DDR2 or for cheaper 2 x 4 GB DDR3. My board is DDR2 though but i do have a DDR3 board. I have no idea if it works though so if it doesnt i'll be stuck with ram i cant use for another month until i have money to get a new one.

I have a copy of Borderlands 2 and the point of buying this card was so i can play it with my friends. If i cant run Dawn of war 2 properly, i am worried for Borderlands. I have done my research and the card seems to be a fairly decent choice for a £150 budget. (please tell me if im wrong). So can only assume its something else in the computer. I checked my processes also and there is nothing untoward going on. Waffled on a bit there! Muchos Thanks in advance for any help! :).

and no it wasn't running fine with this.

Highest res on Dawn of war 2 . I tryed on ultra settings and also low settings with same lagg coming through. Highest resolution , cannot think what that was off top of my head. 1900 x ???? no more.

ohh that nvidia card is crap for games

try lowering the resolution mate and see how it runs

the card is more than capable of running that res but your ram could be a big factor in this

It's definitely either the PSU, CPU or RAM. You'll need to give us some more details on the CPU and PSU for us to help further.

Ok i'll hold off on buying anything for the moment. I should be able to find some more 1 gb ram around the house to pop in and see if that helps at all.

I wont be with my PC for a few days to check but will update on here when i am there. rather than messing around taking all the parts out of my PC i should have just come on here! Now i have to re-build my PC when i get back home!!

Hello again guys, back to my pc again.

I found a 2 gig stick of ddr2 around so have popped that in.

Windows 7 ultimate
Intel quad core
Installed ram 4 gig now after popping above ram in.

64 bit operating.

Psu is >> **Alpha Power

INPUT
115 vac
8 a max
60 hz
230 vac
4 a max
50 hz

After putting that 2 gig ram in i did an in games test again on Dawn of war 2 again. Here the results.

Widescreen (1366x768)

Max fps >41.6
Av fps >84
Lowest fps>20.71

1680x1050

Max fps >43.06
Av fps >87
Lowest fps>24.75

1280x800

Max fps >31.93
Av fps >86
Lowest fps>5.76

that seems a bit strange to me... PSU maybe?

Your system is a massive bottleneck to that 7850 and you're getting 5770 performance from it. Suggest an upgrade to at least a SB i3 (pref i5) is next on the cards.
