Calling on 7850, 7870, 7950 and 7970 owners

well i used driver sweeper to uninstall them but then saying that i then did a complete fresh install of windows(i secure deleted my os ssd) with a fresh install of drivers for the 7950.

just checked it on alice:madness returns and it does it in that and in blacklight retribution too.

gonna take my card out now and try it with the 6850 to see if it does it with that card.

then i shall delete all the drivers download 12.8 and try the 7950 if i still have the lines im guessing the card is pooped!

i tried recording a video well i did but i watched it back and you cant see any of the scrolling lines but what u do see is loads of screen tearing which i had non of when playing!

i then did another video and u yet again couldn't see the lines and there where no screen tearing issues either...

in one way im feeling like im being picky but surely i should be seeing suttle scrolling lines in my games i didnt with my 6850 so..

forget about it now, just get it RMAd and fit the other card while you wait

yeah have taken it out and put everything back in the box it came with and the graphics card,so just have to wait and see what i have to do now i better not have to pay to send it back.

and on top of that looks like i have to rma my seagate barrcuda hdd too as its now making a high pitch noise and loading slowly grrrr...

starting to regret my move to pc spend more time sorting things than i do play games! kinda like tinkering though.lol

the worrying thing is after putting my 6850 in it runs sleeping dogs at 60+fps !obviously not on extreme like the 7950 but..
makes me wonder if it was worth the money tbh

if i was you i'd deffo send it back and give them some more money and get the MSI LIGHTNING 7970, it's not that expensive now; only 380 quid

dont mess around, get the best, look at the OCs on that thread, our cards cant even get close, i'm stuck on 1.18; i'm sorry but it's pathetic i would never have got this card realising that i cant go any higher, because for 360 quid i expect it to sprout wings and fly !

******** wouldn't let me do this last time, i wanted the GTX 670 but they said no

finally, yes it is worth it for you, because that older card you have wont play Crysis 3 or Doom 4 maxed out! .... the 7950 will...easily !

hahaha

there isnt a chance i would stump up another £110 i couldn't deem it to be at all worth it i find it hard to believe i spent so much on the 7950 let alone another 110 and anyway even if i did buy it my missus would rip my balls off!lol

why what happened did u rma a card back and ask to upgrade or something?

Same here. Dunno why I bothered going 5870>7950. Framerates are now better with AA (and obviously a fair bit better without it), but they were never bad in the first place without AA and tbh, I can't see much difference with AA on/off at 1080p.
Don't get me wrong, the 7950 IS an improvement no doubt. I'm just glad I resisted the urge to save a bit and go with a 7850/7870 as that would've been a bit underwhelming despite being great cards.

I guess it was case of upgrading while I could still get a half decent price for my old card and get something that'd hopefully last a couple of years.

thats exactly what i feel word for word even about selling the old card

well it took so long to get my card replaced, that i suggested that they swap it for the GTX 670, or anything similar to mine, i then asked for my money back too, but they declined this as well.

i wanted to buy the replacement card from here, but no i'm stuck with them now.

my card was sent to somewhere in Europe ! and the replacement came from there.

this really angered me, because they had loads of my cards in stock, but they refused to replace mine from their own stock, so i had to wait 10 weeks.

and nobody from this forum will buy my card in a years time, because they'll know i got it from B****** it's a curse around my neck, there's nothing wrong with them they're just ****** slow ! a card should take no more than a week to replace

the difference between you and i is i went from a very old slow card to this one, my old card was at least 3 years too old, but the biggest difference is between the two PCs, this new rig feels about 3 times as powerful as my last one, it's also cold inside/ much quieter and quite a lot lazier too, it games in idle mode on 1080p, the fans never go above 30%...they're on level 2 auto

i was scared to play Crysis 2, but in reality it just ***** all over it, the only time it did any work was on Prime and even then the cpu never went over 56 degrees on 4.4, so the rig has done 20 mins work in 3 months, i really love my rig i think it's fantastic; but to be honest it's overkill for only 1080p i've got the cooling just perfect, i love modding it and fooling around with it, it's the software that i'm useless with.... ha ha

i need a new keyboard though, that one is covered in paint and coffee stains, it's at least 6 years old ! some of the keys dont work that well nowadays, i noticed it in Crysis 2; the sprint key is dieing as is the jump key too.

i build things for fun, RC model kits, Plastic kits, kitchen tables, garden fences, that pc has had 5 different coolers, 100 quids worth of soundproofing, 12 different fans, the roof panel has been repainted 10 times, i'm a fool i just cant stop, i've spent 200 quid on CPU coolers alone, i've had Megahalems, thors hammer, and two Xigmatek Aegirs and finally 2 PSU as well, all over a three year period, i actually brought the case 4 years ago from here and guess what...... i still dont get free shipping !!!!!

i must have fitted and refitted those sodding coolers at least 40 times, i've used 5 different pastes, lapped and relapped the CPU 3 times, broken two mounting kits and finally.............. blew the card ha ha !... you have to laugh and you know what, i love it, loved every minute of it.

new tv next and then i'm going to build another rig, this will be dead easy so to make it more of a challenge i'm going to build something really whacky

Really

I moved from 5870 to 7950 and the performance increase is huge, noteworthy in the actual gameplay.

I only really play BF3 and sometimes BC2 but the difference is incomparable?

It depends on the setup and how sensitive you are to fps. There are plenty of guys on here that find sub 60fps unacceptable. I'm not one of them ;)

For example; In BF3 with everything on ultra (Except shadows-medium with shadowmaps set to 256), no MSAA and high FXXA, with the 5870 I had framerate limited to 59fps which improved performance hugely (for me) over leaving it at default where it would be noticeably inconsistent.

Fps mostly stayed in the 50's and occasionally dropped into the mid-late 40's on bigger maps with ridiculous amounts of madness onscreen.
That may sound a bit crappy to some people, but for me it was smooth sailing with only the occasional hint of judder even in the most intense 64 player ***********.
It maxed BC2 easily without any tweaking.

Now I can stick everything on ultra with 2xAA/High FXAA and keep it mostly at 60+ with the odd drop into the 50's which is great, but AA is virtually unnoticeable to me. Take AA off and fps is solidly above 60.

It's definitely better, but for me the old card did a great job. Would I swap back? lol, no. Do I think it's worth £250 to upgrade? (minus the price for selling the 5870) I'm not so sure just yet...
I think I'm coming across as being unintentionally negative about this card, I do think it's great and I'm glad to have it.
It just isn't a huge change for me, but I do appreciate the added solidity it gives to gaming and the fact that I don't have to be concerned about running the latest games at a high level for a while yet.

i went from a 5870 to a 7850 and still notice the difference, plus even a simple 150mhz oc on the core would have been out of the question on the 5870

temps are better and i hear no fan noise at all in gaming with the 7850 plus it uses a lot less power
