Do you like clubbing?

When I was 18-25 Clubbing was a lot of fun. Having hit 30 this year, I still enjoy drinks and a bit of a dance to some good music (or cheese) but I think its the situation and circumstances that have changed.

I think as you get older, you tend to spend less time with friends than you would do when you were younger (especially at Uni and with housemates). People having all kinds of responsibilities with work, children, family and such, so not everyone is really into clubbing anymore for one. But further to that, as you don't tend to see people quite as much, its usually talking that you want to do to catch up. Clubs are useless for that because you can't talk to anybody because the music is too loud. So in general, I'd say these days, I prefer a decent bar to a club.

I had a terrible experience a few years ago when somebody arranged a meetup with some friends I'd not seen for a few years in a nightclub. All anybody wanted to do was chat, but all you could do was shout at one person's earhole and then wait for them to shout back down your own.

I like Tiger Tiger, it's just a completely different thing to somewhere like fabric.

TigerTiger is where I go to get drunk, listen to rubbish chart music, have a laugh with mates and pull birds.

Fabric is where I go to dance all night to great music

ah ok never been to fabric but everyone on here seems to love it

so will give it a go

did fabric used to be called gas back in the days? :)

underground multi-room/level place in Birmingham, 11-7 DnB and Dubstep). Didn't know there was a difference tbh.

Also I have no idea how people manage to get properly drunk and go clubbing, dancing around like a **** with a belly full of spirits is not a good combo!!!

They weren't drinking with a belly full off spirits if you were at a 11-7 rave, most likely just water.

Are you going for Hazards album launch this Friday?

I think all the people who've mentioned fabric should come out for a night out there as q joint OcUK meet :D

Should he good fun, as long as we pick the night well!

I'm already there most Fridays. The upcoming "20 Years of RAM" is going to be nuts, Andy C 6 hour set! Problem is its already sold out and the queue on the door will be insane. Thank the lord for FabricFirst :D

Ahah. I must go on a Saturday some time. It's not usually my scene (the music I mean) but tastes change and Fabric tends to be the best of a genre so worth at least checking out.

The next two days which I will definately be going to are:

Oct 13: For Marco Carola

and

Nov 17: For Loco Dice & all the Desolat guys

The Nov 17 isn't even announced yet, but if Loco Dice is in London, I know about it!;) (He's my favourite DJ)

He hasn't played in Fabric for over 5 years, he's going to go mental!:D

Negative. I feel old and out of my place. Ok, maybe I'm not but I prefer to stillness of wine bars or pubs. Clubbing days are behind me and thank heavens for that.

I didn't mean to imply that "everyone" gets off their face drunk when going clubbing, as that's obviously not going to be the case with everybody, but you can't deny that for the majority of the younger generation of clubbers (that makes me feel old saying that at 26) that the sole purpose of going out clubbing is to get arsefaced.
I couldn't give a monkeys what people want to do, and if they choose to get messy and horifically ill the next day as they enjoy it, then fine. What I don't understand is the apparent mentality with primarily younger generations that getting in such a state is the sole point, and somehow necessary to be considered normal. If you don't fancy that type of activity, you're instantly thought of as a bit of a weirdo.
What I was trying to get across, is that if you like drinking and the sweatfest of clubbing, go nuts. If not, don't be bullied into doing something you don't like as not everyone will think you're a nutter.

I did have friends who as Papa Larazu pointed out, were a crap social circle, but luckily found new friends who accept me for who I am, without trying to make me feel like an outsider for not drinking. I never thought I'd never find that at first.

As for the real ale terms, I was merely trying to distinguish a proper beer from the normal lagers, as I think my Dad would rather drink wee than something like Fosters etc!
Also, I don't drink any alcoholic beverages when I'm out with him or anyone else that drinks, just them.

I understand your point, and more so now that you've said it in a calm and collected way. Coming across announcing your're a teatotaller and then berating the choices of those who drink as you did in your OP wasn't the best way to do it no was it? ;)

Your original post came across as you thought everyone that goes out drinking is a knob, or whatever you said. And then you said that you go and socialise with said knobs. Seemed weird.

I totally disagree with your view of the younger generation (I'm 23) and it seems that you are basing your experiences on a small sample as I know many people that don't go out with the sole intention of getting arsefaced. Though obviously these people exist, and it's something I've done myself. I just don't think it's the majority of people the majority of the time.

Let's not get me started on lager et al not being "proper beer".

I will be there for Oct 19th for their 13th birthday. Strange to think I spent my 21st birthday in Fabric (I am 31 now) and I am still going back. Can't think of many clubs with that sort of longevity.

I will check out Loco Dice on YouTube and see if its something I would want to check out.

No not any more. I always used to wake up the next day with a sore head and an empty wallet, feeling like I'd been mugged. And with prices so high I suppose it is mugging in a way. I like going places where the music isn't so loud now, where I can listen and talk to the people I'm with.

Here's a video of Loco Dice i recorded at Warehouse Project last year:

Used to go twice a week, now that I've moved away from where my friends are it's less often, so it's only every 2 or 3 weeks(ish) as and when I can make it back.
