This weekend is my 1st Wedding Anniversary (Lovely lady whom I met on t'interweb... it can work!! :) )

We're off to Belfast on Friday at stupid o'clock from Bristol (Queezy Jet) and staying in Central Belfast for 4 nights... I'm getting very excited as I've never been to Ireland before!! :)

Anyhew, I was buzzing around on the 'Go To Belfast' website http://www.gotobelfast.com/ and saw that Jack Dee is on at the Belfast Waterfront on Saturday... and as I originally wanted to take the wife to see him in July for her birthday (sold out unfortunately) I thought I'd have a go at getting tickets for this one!...

To my surprise tickets were still available and not too pricey, so I booked two!.

*Cool Story Bro* I hear you say!.. :D

What I was wondering from you nice peoples out there is, has anyone been to the Belfast Waterfront??, What's it like?? are there any decent(ish) eating places nearby (we're staying at the Premier Inn so it's about a 15 minute walk to the Waterfront!)

On a side note... Apart from 'The Giant's Causeway' and 'The Titanic Museum' what other wonders of Ireland (easily accessible by Bus/Train) would you recommend we go see!?!? :)

Cheers
Sim :)

I have seen a few acts in The Waterfront, Norah Jones, The Chieftians, Tori Amos...a really great venue, the sound is excellent...(also has a restaurent which is not to bad)

There seems to be 2 (3) Premier Inns in Belfast, what seems like 2 in Waring Street (Cathedral Quarter, probably 2 separate builings but 1 establishment) and 1 in Clarence Street, from either of these places really the Waterfront is only a 10 mins walk...

As regards an eatery, Berts Bar (an entrance on High Street, at Skipper Street) which is part of the Merchant Hotel (in Waring Street) has a nice restaurent and a Jazz band comes on @ 9am...also Deanes Restaurent in either Howard street or Bedford Street, Harlem in Howard street (just down from Deanes) also have a look Here and Here (list of reviews on right hand side)

The Titanic Museum is certainly worth a visit, as is the Giant's Causeway, when visiting the Giant's Causeway, you might also want to do a tour of the famous Bushmills Distillery which is only a mile from it (in Bushmills), also an open top bus tour of Belfast would be worth while...

EDIT 1

21 Social would be worth a look, also in Waring Street,

EDIT 2

Boojum

I work right next to the waterfront, great venue!

It's not very close to any great eateries (as in 2 mins away, and IMO of course) but if you want some delicious food, look out for a place called "Home" which is about 10 minutes on Wellington Place in the city centre, so kind of en route back to your hotel depending on which one you're at.

If you're at the waring street premier inn I'd also definitely recommend "Made in Belfast" for lunch/dinner - it's on Talbot street right next to the cathedral or there's another one beside city hall.

To be honest, Belfast is very walkable so you'll have no trouble getting to any of these places walking and if you're really really stuck it'll be a couple of quid max to get a taxi

Oh I'd also recommend a wee Boojum if you fancy a handy mexican takeaway lunch in the town, although you can eat in too.

Prepare to queue! :D

Waterfront is really nice. I went when I was in primary school and then again recently to see Stephen Merchant. Great view from whenever you sat and good audio quality.

I've checked the weather reports for this weekend... Looks like it won't be raining!!

FINGERS CROSSED!!! :)

Second the above suggestion of Made In Belfast for food, also check out the Jharna on Lisburn Rd if you like a curry.

Boojum (booyum?) is fantastic, had one on Saturday, drooling just thinking about it! Scalini and Speranza are both very good Italian restaurants, just to add a couple more suggestions.

Make sure you go for a drink (the food looked awesome as well) in The Spaniard and Whites Tavern. Both awesome pubs. In fact, the food at the latter is pretty good and portions are huge.

There's 2 boojums! One down behind uni and one round the side of the city hall area! (its important information)

Always risk the bus tour, that's good. If it rains, just wear more layers :p plus it wouldn't be NI without a decent (and cold) down pour...

This is a silly but quick tip, when you are flying over with easy jet the in flight book will cover Belfast on a few thing to do/see that you might not know about, worth a read on the way out.

If you want to travel out of Belfast stick to getting the bus! There are only 2 trains in NI, on that goes very slowly round the coast from Belfast all the way to Derry/Londonderry, takes AGES and what you see at the other end will make you get straight back on the train... :p Other train goes to Dublin, that's a quick way to get there, but a bit pointless really as there is enough in the North for a good few weeks.

That's pretty much all my useful advice that doesn't involve student drinking. Make sure you have at least one pint of Harp for me (under appreciated Irish lager)

Oh and don't be let down like my sister was when she first came over, her opening words we "it looks just like every city in England".... There aren't that many road signs in Irish (the bus tour is the best way to have them pointed out to you) and it does just seem like most other places, but is a fun a friendly place really.
