Terrible names

we have named our children Monty and Prudence, and our puppy is called Martha, I like old fashioned names...mercedes and porche grate on me so so much! I went to university with a Zimbabwean called LoveJoy Munawenyu...he was awesome, such a winner of a name for the girls!

It's funny, given too much freedom people come up with some stupid names, on the other end of the scale there's pretty much a book of names you can choose from over here, though things have relaxed since the end of communism, depending on the office you register the birth at you may get non-Czech names rejected. Having a limited list means I know more than one person with each of the following names Petra, Marketa, Eva, Lucie, Martin, Tomas and Ondrej, maybe even more. I've heard that in school it's not uncommon to have 3-4 people with the same name in a class.

Both extremes aren't good and as long as the name isn't silly or offensive you should be able to call your kid anything.

Wasn't someone's baby named Skyrim a few months ago?

Filipinos are quite creative with names I must say! They have a senator whose real name is Joker, for example. And I know a girl called Chinky, which is, like, fuel for much humour.

Shel Silverstein originally written "A Boy Named Sue", it was based upon the life of Jean Shepherd, an american humourist who caught all kinds of flack as a youngun for what was considered a feminine name at the time.
It didn't help that Jean's mother used to call him "Jeanie", which is even more effeminate.

Bonus trivia time:
Jean Shepherd wrote mostly about his own life, he pitched a TV soap series based upon his early life to various TV execs but nothing became of it.
Sometime after his pitch a new TV show appeared called "The Wonder Years" starring a young Fred Savage, this show was a direct rip of Shepherds own series.
