Anyone on here own an Audi with this engine? Think they have been fitted to the latest S4 and S5 convertible/sport back. The S4 also got reasonable reviews and is supposed to be a decent drive.
What are they like to drive? I've heard some mild tuning will get you over 400bhp from them?

Been looking at the S4 quite heavily, and have had the pleasure of a colleagues s5 cabrio with this engine.

They really are sublime, but I'd want one with drive select!

Looks like a fairly decent engine and probably a better choice than an E9x 335i given the age of that now.

If you are buying new though I'd imagine the F30 is a better car - generationally its 4 years ahead of the A4 and 5 years ahead of the A5.

How much difference did the drive select make? Its a similar system to BMW's EDC in the E92 M3 right?

Never used the BMW system, so can't really compare, but without drive select (and the associated suspension/sports differential), the car doesn't feel anywhere near as sharp when pressing on!

I drove one for work the other week down to Bristol and then up to Manchester.

It was quicker than I expected it to be.

My folks have a new s5 on the way which should be delivered in about 6 weeks, quite looking forward to borrowing it once it arrives :)

As a drivers car, bmw have always been ahead of audi. But audis are just the nicer cars to be in and look at imho. The f30 is still not a pretty car:'(

I've never really got on with these engines. I don't find them particularly engaging, they lack any character and they never feel particularly quick. They're not bad performers though, in the numbers stakes, admittedly.

Far prefer the 3.0-litre BiTDI (or the new 4.2 FSI, hehe)! *runs*

Nice, I didn't know that. Would like to know why they didn't offer it in the first place. The 4.2 is such an old tired design.

I had spoken to Audi about this, and whilst it is odd that the Cab (and 5 door) got the 3.0TFSI before the facelift (or is it a *new* model?) and the Coupé didn't, I think it had something to do with volume of sales and needing to shift the older 4.2FSI unit.

The Sportback and Cab never had the 4.2 they were released with that engine. It must be very old stock for a 4.2 Coupe to still be kicking about as they facelifted the car over 12 months ago now.
