JJB Sports go bust !

Hadn't s been on the cards for about a year. Something about JD buying them out or something early last year? Guess they didn't so it isn't surprising they went kaboosh.

To be fair, JJB actually started to sell some decent stuff later on, a far better selection of real sports kit than JD, and usually higher quality than Sports Direct. Obviously anyone who buys their clothes in their needs their head looking at though!

I actually haven't been into a JJB Sports in a very long time, but last time I went in one of their big stores, they did actually have a large amount of sports equipment. I remember being surprised by that, as most places on the High-Street with sports in the title don't sell sports items. It did change from its beginnings when it was more like JD Sports.

Sports Direct obviously sell sport items, but the shops are a mess.

I can't even see all the way up there on your high horse.

I worked for JJB Golf about 12 years ago. It was a decent business at that time and a serious threat to the big golf stores. It's a bit of a shame really as back then it was a lot better than Sports Direct is today. I have no idea how they have fallen so far.

On a positive note maybe it will be a boost for smaller sports shops.

I'd say the price. There target market are chavs and sports enthusiast, yet when I went in there last to buy a some running gear for a relatives birthday, you couldn't buy a t-shirt or trackies for under 30quid. I couldn't believe it. Sports Direct are about a 3rd the price.

Couldn't care less about JJB. They were a bit crap from what I remember. I've bought some great jackets, t-shirts, jeans and other stuff from Sports Direct. Great prices for some nice clothes. My latest Sports Direct purchase a few weeks ago :p

That's little different to the price actual sports retailers themselves in their own stores like Nike Town, Adidas, Asics etc.

Sports Direct actually puts me off buying actual sportswear because its full of chavs buying sports clothing to wear as normal clothing and their stores are the most jumbled messy things that exist on the high-street.

So really its horses for courses.

Talking of Sports Direct I had the displeasure of having to go in there for the first time recently. I'll admit some of their prices were good but it was honestly the worst shopping experience of my life. It was dirty, tatty, overcrowded and there seemed no logic in where things were placed. A trely horrible place.
