GTR or Spec R or Type R?

They have a WMIC, tucked near the passenger side arch.

It depends on what your preferences are, I'd get one with some mods already, yeah, but given their age I'd buy on condition. They are starting to rust now so you need to be wary of cars that are hiding a lot of rust, particularly around the rear subframe mounting points. Other common problems are subframe bushes and turbo lines and VVT rattles. Lack of oil changes (already mentioned in this thread I think) using incorrect oils can lead to the oil spray bars blocking.

Modded 15s will be cost a fair bit to buy, a 14a would be cheaper and you could spend the savings on mods for the 14 and end up with a pretty similar car. The 15 does look nicer though.

S15 gearboxes are made of choclate, if you go past 350bhp your going to want an s14 5speed as they can handle upto 450bhp.

To get 400 bhp in an s15 your looking at:

Gt2871r £860
Hks actuator £100
Walbro fuel pump £65
Front mount intercooler £400
555cc nismo injectors or the 775cc about £650
Z32 maf and adapters (£500 new or around £120 sencond hand
Full exhaust mani-backbox so say £700ish
Boost controller £350 (greddy prospec b)
S14 5 speed £250
New clutch + flywheel £500??
Then a good forged engine, probably a lot for cams, piston rings ect. Guess @ £1500??
Probably missed a lot out, just going off memory.

Tbh i would aim for 320bhp. Best balance between power/drivability/fun

They come with a wing mount ic, tbh if it was me. Because ive already got an s14a running 300bhp i would buy an s15 and just do basic stuff, exhaust, springs and nice rims.

They are nice to drive at 250bhp.

If your power hungry spend 7000£ on a mint stage 3 s14a

But if you really do want to mod a 15, get one with a front mount intercooler as they are a pain to fit and require cutting and usually relocating the battery to the boot.

Thanks for that, so 400bhp is going to cost quite a bit!

May I ask what your 14 is running? Seen post above :)

Have just taken a quick look at advertised 14s and 15s. To find a modded 15 that hasn't been driven through halfords is quite hard. Also, to find a 14 in a manual with a nice colour is becoming hard too.

I do love both of them so it will be put down to the car I find at the time I buy :)

If you are looking at modifying the car then surely the lack of power in the S2000 isnt something to consider. If you are wanting to drift and have a car more practical then the s15 will certainly be a better choice. But if you are going to be spending several thousand changing parts then the S2000 easily compares too the s15 for horsepower.

If you like green, check your e-mail :p

My friend has one with ~400bhp and it is pretty bloody mental.

The craziest I've been in is an s13 with close to 500 (or was it 450?, **** knows, it was enough either way!) and that thing was scary  didn't twitch or anything but it was like a rollercoaster!

This is true, for £5k you can Super charge the s2k and get just short of 400bhp! It certainly is an option!

Mine 14 has
Full exhaust mani-backbox
Standard turbo (on 98000 miles tho so will replace with a gt28 i ithink)
Walbro fuel pump
Manual boost controller but have an electric one to go on.
Horsham developments custom map
Greddy fmic
Upgraded recirc valve (somthing i missed off previous list £100 for forge but i have a £35 ebay one which is pap!)
Braided turbo line (somthing else off the list £100).

My target is stage 2a which is 320bhp but need the injectors and maf for it. About a £600 jump with remap.

Better cooler than standard yet it fits in the standard location so no need to cut anything up.

There are pics of a yellow hard top on here somewhere and it is pure win!

I've not seen that hard top before! Not quite sure what to make of it, reminds me a bit of a Z4 coupe.

You don't have to relocate the battery to the boot to fit a FMIC, most people just use a small race battery. Fitting an FMIC isn't that big a deal, certainly not more difficult than one of the bigger jobs such as replacing subframe bushes, turbo lines/gaskets etc. Totally depends on your needs though.

I believe it's the Mugen one, have only ever seen in Japan.
I like it but if you want a spoilered s2k it isn't the way to go!

Is the cutting only in the front bumper to place it? As that's what you have to do on my shaped Cupra aswell.

The apex cooler isnt brilliant, the pipes are quite thin and a lot of people flog them on sxoc. An advantage of moving the battery is it opens quite a lot of space in the engine bay and it a lot easier to work with.

Definitely add more things to your requirements, else you might end up with a FMIC fitted to a rust bucket with iffy handling :p

I've worked on one with a race battery (14 not 14a) and it didn't cause much hindrance?

I've heard that the Apex one has longer pipe work too so adds a bit of lag.
