I have just applied for Free cavity wall insulation on a link through Martins Money Tips and Tesco.
Is there a catch to this. they do mention solar heating etc in their info, so do they try to get you to buy that when they ring up to discuss it further.
Has anyone actually had Free cavity insulation fitted
I am not on benifits etc and it does say it is for everyone
Cheers

I had wall and loft insulation fitted back in April. Its made a huge difference so far with the bit of cold weather the last few weeks :)

Just to add that this was done for free. I was told that they’d apply for the grant to do it for free and that we technically shouldn’t get it but at the time most applications weren’t checked and were just approved. He then said that if it was rejected we’d have the option to cancel it or we could go ahead with it all being done for around £250 which would’ve been worth it anyway.

Paid about £50 for mine. The rest was all covered and paid for by the government i believe..

There are negatives for cavity wall insulation.. I've noticed we do get a slight mould in some corners of the window and bathroom which we never got before. You do have to air the house more often..

On the plus side.. it is notably warmer :)

British Gas do it for free, even if you're not a customer. Ditto loft insulation. But you only get one or the other for free, not both.

Who did you get to do it?

Think our house is too old for this. Remember being told we had no suitable cavities. Damn old house :-(

Had a survey done today. Loft as well as cavity wall. £40 excess to pay. Only a set square meterage for free. £770 without the grant. (I thought we were in a finacial crisis. Still, think of all the polar bears I've saved.)

What was the metreage limit

Edit: it seems to be 120 sq metres, hope I have applied in time to get the grant

There are treatments for solid walls as well. Basically a thermal material is applied inside or outside. Both will require a lot more work than just pumping material into a cavity but the reports I saw said they are very good.

Internal seems to be basically sticking the material to the wall and overboarding. Outside is sticking the thermal material to the wall then rendering over the top. I think if you have good brickwork they say to go internal (think you lose 10-15cm of space per outside wall being done).
If your already rendered or brickwork is tatty and may need repointing they say go outside as the cost of the rendering or repointing will pretty much coer the job anyway.

We got our walls and loft done for free. But we have an OAP in the house, don't know if that makes a difference.

They never tried to sell us anything else at the time, and haven't bothered us since.

We wouldnt be able to get a grant for that though I expect. The house is currently pebbledashed (well spar dashed). We plan on painting it soon as removing and rendering the whole thing looks to cost near £8000 which is a huge sum of money :(

Had ours done a few months back for free too, makes a hell of a mess mind! and the noise is insane! try and arrange to go out when you get it done :p

Agreed, those little balls get everywhere! Turned out the interior side of an external wall had a hole in so when they filled the wall it all poured into one of our cupboards!

Was going to have mine done for £99 with EoN.

Survey took an age to be done (about 4 months), and then it took another 3 months for them to come and do it.

They turned up and started drilling holes in the wall and found it was already done. The surveyor who I saw drilling holes and looking in with an endoscope device completely missed the bright yellow fluffy stuff already there!
