AMD Catalyst 12.9 AMD Official BETA

Hmm, these seem to run fine on my 6950 (Unlocked to 6970 shaders) in Game Mode (900 on the core)

But I get very bad screen flicker/glitching under 2d clocks. Shame :(

Any fix for this?

The sound issue I've had since drivers after 12.4 is a very weird one but I've got a workaround. Since drivers after 12.4 I had no sound in windows so I uninstalled thinking I had no sound at all. Turns out (only tried with these 12.9) that sound does work in games and on hardware accelerated videos like flash vids on youtube. To get sound in windows like playing a tune for example a 3D app must be running (a youtube vid can be paused and minimized for example) and windows sounds work. I dunno if its something to do with clock speeds or what.

Interesting post here for people using AMD cards overclocking with afterburner via the un-official method.

TL : DR -

Use the official overclock method, if you use the afterburner un-official overclock method you need to pick option 2 when editing the config (disable powerplay) instead of option 1 (enable un-official overclocking)

Seems to work decent when using CCC to overclock! Using AB pretty much at all is still a total disaster! Screen flickering and crashes! BF3,BF2,MW3, all the same! Guess we are stuck with CCC unless we go Nvidia! This is with a single 7870!

It's due to the way the driver or AB is handling being pushed into 3D clocks on the desktop. You can avoid this by choosing option 2 at the unlock AB process thereby disabling Powerplay(PP). What's happening is while a game login screen is on, AB kicks it into 3D mode cuz the game is technically on. However PP see's 3D clocks on the desktop and is like nice try and tries to drop clocks. bam, you get flickering. If you open AB's graph monitoring you'll see the memory clocks fluctuating, which causes flicker.

This should only be a pain in the arse on the desktop, like on your way to logging into whatever multiplayer game.

Also if you're using unofficial method like me, you don't need Powerplay at all."

To overclock the official way, see this thread.

No problems with the above here but i used the official way from the link u posted @Matt so cheers for that :)

Just wana say that these drivers are running peachy for me so far.. just came off BF3 and had a good spell on caspian border which was a 64 player server maxed out 1080p with 4xMSAA.. heres my fraps bench result..

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
59823, 933407, 40, 140, 64.091

Seems like a 9fps boost in average as i think it was 55fps last time on same map and my max fps went up too :)

Also gained a couple of fps in Sleeping Dogs bench and Future Soldier is a solid 60fps vsynced all the way with max settings at 1080p.. very pleased so far :D

Right then, I have found out why I'm getting lockups when using my overclocks, it's because afterburner is not applying the voltages now, is there a way to force it, it worked before the 12.9 beta.

Trixx applies the voltage, you lose the OSD if you don't use AB though, launching AB first then apply the clocks/voltage through Trixx works.

i noticed something like this too, i maybe shouldnt of installed CCC but i wanted see what was new, also had trixx running

got the horrible screen flicker Taken was talking about too, wasnt impressed lol

Screen flicker is what you get when you use 3rd party tools to force un-official overclocking on AMD cards.

See this thread to fix the flicker.

are you using crossfire?

If I disable ULPS, everything is fine again, but it disables zero core which I like.

No single card here.

I don't know but it sounds to me like the un-official overclock method might have something to do with it.

Found out the cause of my overclocking woes was these beta's. Back to 12.8's and my 7870 overclocks like a champ.

Well. I can run the cards at 1150mhz/1650 on stock voltages (overclock via CCC)

but to run my 1200/1850 (24/7stable) I need 1.2v core and 1.65v memory.

Hmm, Ive only used betas on my 7970, wonder if the 12.8's will make a difference as mine isn't going anywhere over 1100@stock v or 1140Mhz-no matter the volts thrown at it.

Control center refuses to load with these, just gets a host application error every time ti tries to launch, thats after a couple of reinstalls as well. =/
