Hi guys,

Just picked up a Milltek 4-1 manifold for my Fiesta ST and the previous owner has put heat wrap on it. Just wondering if people can advise me on whether to keep it on there or not, I can't really find a good answer as to what it actually achieves.

Keep the heat wrap or take it off?

Ta :)

It keeps the heat out of the engine bay / cabin

Keep it if it's been done

Is that all? Makes sense if so, in order to fit the new mani the massive heat shield has to come out with the old one to make it fit.

What about performance? Can the excessive manifold heat damage it?

It improves performance by keeping the intake air cooler and/or the engine. Whether it can take it depends on the quality of the product, I'd say being Miltek it will be fine.

When i had a milltec manifold on a puma engine in a fiesta it there was some wrap on it, also they put sme wrap on some near by pipes... They get very hot, and depending how cloe it is to other components, i guess its to protect them..

serves little more than reducing under bonnet temps, heat soak is quite important to turbos less so to a NA but still has relevance.
As its already done you may as well keep it.

They do cause a lot of heat to go through the manifold and will break any weak welding though.

As well as keeping the temps lower in the engine aby/intake, i think it improves efficiency because hotter exhaust gasses flow better? (but i doubt it will really make any noticeable difference)
