gtx670 SLI for 1080p?

yeh i will do, was thinking high res monitor a 2x 670's then sell cpu, mobo and ram to a family member and get x79 setup, what do you think, wont a new socket be out by the time i need to upgrade?

For 2x670's you will need pci-e 3 as they will bottle neck as i found out on my x58 platform.

There have been lots of articles that show this is not the case.
All the articles I have read point to there being 1/2fps difference at most with SLI 680s comparing gen 2 & gen 3 PCI-E.

ok, that will save my back account abit then, so a high res monitor and a couple of 670 FTW's

are the DELL ultra sharps a lot better than the DGM, picture quality that is

this. not worth upgrading your cpu.

just get the best monitor you can though, it will last the longest out of everything else you buy for your pc. (maybe excluding case and power supply)

Build quality is better & it should in theory last longer, doubt you'll notice any difference in image quality though.

+1

You can't even bottleneck a pair of GTX 690s - Less than 1 FPS in Heaven 3 benchmark.

It only becomes a problem with multi monitors and 3 or 4 cards.

In your shoes I'd just get a 670 and leave it at that tbh. Not sure you'd see much benefit upgrading an overclocked i5 750, so I'd say do what I'm doing and wait for Haswell on that front. And 2 x 670s for 1080p is pretty much just setting fire to loads of money.

I would upgrade to a 2560x1440p monitor and get one 670 of some kind.

Having come from a Dell 3007 @ 2560 X 1600 I can tell you that 120Hz for FPS is just better.

You may be fine with a single 670 @ 60FPS @ 60HZ however I would recomend getting a second card if you want to play @ 120FPS @ 120Hz constant.

I've had no performance issues with a 670 wf on a 1080p 120hz monitor. On max settings i don't recall dropping below 90 fps and that was on BF3. 120hz imho is essential for FPS gaming to get the most out of your system.

Running 3x GTX 670 at 1920x1200@60Hz for now. I can see a substantial difference in heavy GPU load games when running 1-2-3 cards. Currently playing MOH Tier 1, Crysis 2, AVP and Metro2033 again and the scaling is very good. I just add a bunch of AA to make things cleaner and smooth looking :) ... I don't play BF3 though I have the game unopened, since after BFBC2 I got bored of that series of games. I'm more to fast paced shooters.

There's no way you get a 90fps minimum in BF3 at Ultra settings with one card, you can barely get that with 2 cards.

With that many cards would you not consider a 120hz monitor? Seems a waste at 60hz.

It might be game dependant but even something like BF3, which had a clear measurable FPS advantage in SLI, just did not feel substantially better to compared to the cost.
The link of my sig still shows the SLI setup but a single 670 is plenty for 99% of the time at 1080 with 120Hz, even in games suited to 3D like Trine or Dirt.
