I have about 4.5k to spend on a car (19 yr old)

Swifts have very weak clutches, i've done a few by the time they were 4 years old and under 40k miles. Everything for Suzuki's is bloody expensive too! I'd not have one.

If I were you, I would be looking at a ford focus 1.6 titanium or zetec. Run insurance quotes with Admiral/Bell/Elephant and add your parents as named drivers.

Seriously, don't pay 4k on insurance even if you are getting half, it really is throwing money down the drain.

and I couldn't live with having a slow hatchback it would drive me insane. When I was going out practising with my rents (aside from lessons) we drove our 1.6 ford fusion. That was ok, but not powerful enough

don't even get me started on the bloody fiat 500 i did my test in :p

Doesn't this concern anybody else here?

You're a relatively new driver and young - don't worry about a care being "fast". It's really not that important. What's "not powerful enough" in your opinion?

what about something like the twingo RS?

surely that has to be a bag of fun too but will come with less of the insurance pitfalls of the clio RS

they look like immense fun too! dont know if theyre cheap enough yet though

Swift - £2675

the swift is with this company called insurethebox.com hence why its so cheap

I think your definition of "cheap" insurance is quite different to mine - my first quote as a new driver was £1200 which I classed as expensive! Albeit on a Rover, with a 1.4 engine and 16 valves of insanity :p

You should wait until you're at least 21 with 3 years NCB before buying a hot hatch.
FWIW I think you're insane for paying that much insurance on something like a 197.

Those are insane prices. You'd be far better off just getting a cheap to insure runabout for a couple of years then using the money saved to get something nice when you have more driving experience and ncb. Why does everyone have to have a fast car from the word go these days? Why not work your way up?

Those are insane insurance premiums, run some quotes for non sport versions of cars, like fiesta 1.6, Mondeo 1.8 etc.

I also don't like this emphasis on 'fast'. Remember, the road isn't a playground. If you crash or get tickets at a young age. Your insurance will sky rocket.

you may only be paying half this year but what about next year?

assuming you don't crash it (which is likely), your insurance will go down but not by much so you'll be facing these high costs again next year.

I wouldn't be asking my parents to cough up £2000 for my insurance just because I want a fast car after 1 year, and I wouldn't refere to them as "the rents" that's disrespectfull imo.

well i am hoping it will have gone down by at least 1k so I should be ok. And I am pretty confident I won't crash it. I will even report back to this thread if I do (or if I don't) to prove it :p

more important in the local mcdonalds than actual power output.

was that supposed to be an insult? I would top myself before I worked in that craphole

lets say 120bhp

Maybe his parents are quite well off?

no. they aren't. they are just generous and I thank them for that.

let's not turn this into a judge-fest. I don't know how old you, and the others ITT are, but 'rents' is a pretty common name when referring to your parents but not speaking to them directly. I would only use it online.

just like 'imo' and 'itt'. I mean no disrespect by it

Well you can pretty much guarantee with that little road experience you'll bin it very soon - my advice is get something more sensible and get something faster when you have the experience, and the premiums aren't so ridiculous.

FYI I got my 182 when I became 21, insurance was £1100. Tried a quote the day before (my birthday), it was over 3k and most companies wouldn't insure me.

So other than he can't afford one, it seems like a great idea!

Jealousy is a bitter mistress.

get off it. Don;t be another hater just because his parent want to support him. A lot of these comments are fairly harsh guys.

Not everyone wants a sensible car despite it making more sense in most situations.
