What temperature do you have your office air-conditioning set to?? (if you have it)

Mod: can we have a poll please? With the options of:

<21
22>
Don't have AC :(
Open a window!
Throw on a Jumper
Pancake

I hold the details of the access points to the AC units on our floor of the office.

One of the training managers came to me today saying that the temperature in the training room was too high and staff were extremely uncomfortable and falling asleep

I checked the unit and it was set to 25 degrees!

Now for me that far to high - 21 degrees is ideal IMO.

So I reset that part of the office to 23 degrees. Unfortunately the marketing department have gone nuts, claiming that if the temperature is any lower people get ill and have problems with pains in their necks cause of the cold air blowing etc etc.

I changed the temperature 10 mins ago...Marketing have now complained to HR that their necks are already hurting from the cold air :rolleyes:

There has to be a happy medium some where!!

So GD - tell me your temperatures :) Then I can tell silly Marketing that the GD population of OCUK have spoken and the temperature is __!

Grade 2 listed building where we do not have permission to install AC units... :( Servers are more upset by this than i.

Trust me, there will never be a happy medium for the people sitting under air conditioning ducts. It will be blowing cold for them no matter what temperature you set.

Pah, air conditioning is a luxury and you should be lucky just to have it!

Yes, I work in an admin block, and the only rooms that have A/C is the photocopier room and the server room. Shame it's still expensive/luxury as we are in the 21st century now.

If I did have access to A/C myself though, I would set it to about 19C. I know for fact that the girls would disagree and prefer it at >21C.

The most annoying thing about my admin block though is that the radiators are controlled remotely on a global basis, and they thought it was a brilliant idea to give them a 2-hour blast on August and September mornings. You could see that literally every window was open due to this. See the £pound coins dropping out of the windows due to the heating bill. If you're cold, stick a jumper on lol. Normal people shouldn't put central heating on until October.

Most offices I've worked in tend to have an AC control somewhere for each individual room. I think its no good saying what the temperature is usually set at because the reality is that it will be fiddled with constantly. There will always be some people in the Office who feel cold more, even when its blazing hot, so they will want it turned down. As said above, those who sit right next to air con will be the most vocal, so even if they are freezing, you might be boiling and it becomes a silly Office game of changing the air conditioning.

We have AC but I dont think it sits as a constant temp (I wish it did though). Some days you a bloody roasted and other then it's cold. Plus the engineer guys seem to be on site in the office all the time working at it.

Oh god takes me back to a job where I worked on a floor with about 120 people.

Summer was worst, blokes wearing same clothes as rest of year, shirts and trousers, wanting about 18-20 degrees, same as rest of year.

Girls/women would come in in little summer number, short skirts etc and lots less clothes than rest of year and want ac at 25 due to being cold.

IMO should be about 20 degrees all year. Makes no difference what temperature is outside. You can then dress appropriately to work in that environment.

Should just point out I am not adverse to girls wearing summer clothes, its nice to see them get a nip on ;)

We have it in our office, set to a constant 20C because that's what the majority want, and it is ****ing ball freezing. Wearing a jumper is the only solution :(

No a/c, which is a bit of a joke considering the size and wealth of the company I work for. Although they are building a new office in the next few years.

Im sure ours is broke, one hour its freezing the next its boiling.. it's never at a constant temperature but when I do check it around the 22oC mark.

I think we can agree that whatever you set the temperature at, marketing teams are always the biggest bunch of bloody pansies.

AC and artificial lighting sucks.

I think we have ours set to 23 degrees but we have our own thermostat in the IT office so we are always moving it up and down trying to find the sweet spot. We ended up bribing facilities to give us the key to the window, which is quite rare to have an open window in an office block. Now we have the window slightly open and keep the thermostat to a relatively high temp and i think its perfect, but don't know the temp because it is just a dial with no numbers.

Well I caved and re-set their area back to 25 degrees and set the training rooms (or the area that I think the training rooms are in) to 23...

No doubt someone - prob one of the trainers - will come to me next week complaining that its too cold :(

I am too young to shoulder such responsibilities! I have tried to pass the AC knowledge on to another IT member of staff but they are all too wise and say "Nah, your all right" :(

Oh god...I come on OCuk to get away from the aircon wars in the office here! The women always want it set to African temperatures because they insist on wearing little vest tops and sleeveless tops etc and the men want it set at a normal temperature. The battle has been going on for months and now we seem to be in winter temperature its going to bring about a whole new reason to bitch on at the coffee machine!

I agree with someone above though, you can't please everyone!

Ours is broken at the moment, our thermometer reckons that it's 26.5ºc in here today (can fluctuate to around 30ºc) :(

My office is at the same temp as the elements :(.

Cant turn the heater on unless its below like 5C

And we have no AC for the summer but its not very warm in here ever really.
