People of 'PC Games'

I don't think sub-forums are needed yet but I'm not opposed to them as long as it doesn't thin out the community and make it harder to get the information people want.

Only thing wrong with having a main forum and also a spoiler forum is that it would require a lot of moderation. You'd have instances of questions being asked twice, duplicated answers, double amount of threads for each title, information being in one and not the other. Personally, that's what the spoiler tag is for.

I was thinking IF we have an Indie Sub section

Instead of Game + Type (INDIE)

It will be something like this for future usage

Amazing Dingo - Indie ( SHOOT EM UP )
Diddly Diddly - Remake ( PLATFORMER )

yes/no ?

Lets trial a INDIE sub forum for a month and see how it goes.

Yes/No?

Sounds good either way..

Please leave the sticky though as it's a great ref for ocuk/search and twitter members

The reason I don't like sub forums despite them sounding like good ideas is because of admin issues and the fact that I have to go to another section of the forum to see whats popular/new.

Perhaps a PC Games Help sub forum would work so users don't have to wade through an entire 200 page thread... but that's about it.

I'm fine with an indie forum (I don't care about them really so I'd just avoid it)

It would need a lot of moderating though, for the big indie games (Braid, Limbo etc) people would create threads in both forums.

Most Mods are posted in the ***OFFICIAL*** threads which makes it difficult to find mods that you actually want to install so a sub-forum would help in that aspect. The same can be said about the deals as 90% of them are contained in a single thread making it easy to miss out on a bargain. I agree about the tips one though, they fit in well with the Official threads.

This is my feeling.

The only one I feel strongly about is the deals sub-forum. It doesn't NEED to be very active to work. That's the beauty of it. It'll be easier to scan than the thread, and it'll stop people who don't use/know about the thread from posting them in the main section, where they get lost. It means more ***OFFICIAL*** threads on the main section.

I'm not sure moving *****OFFICIAL*** threads into a subforum would be helpful, as they make up the majority of the threads on the forum now and might leave it empty. I'm on the fence on this one though, as it might leave more room to discover NEW games that are being announced, rather than filling page 1 with games we already know about and will seek out. Might be worth trialling this one

Categorising them, however, would most likely be detrimental, as it would hide games other people might like, but who don't play that genre in general. Indie games survive because of exposure to people who didn't know about them. I wouldn't browse an indie subforum regularly, but when I see a cool thread pop up I might buy it. Diversity is a good thing here.

Don't think there's much call for anything else tbh.

Deals don't need a subforum, just the main thread. You only ever have to look at the last few entries, because 99% of deals are one day or one week only. If anything it will be more confusing in a quiet sub forum where posts stay on the same page for ages after the deal has finished.

I think whatever is done you will never have a completely one sided vote, there will always be people who prefer one way or another :D

That can easily be mended by having the date it's on in the thread title and if you know when the deal finish include that too. The current thread is a cluster**** of deals many won't care about and general discussion that pushes deals you may want back a few pages meaning you miss out.

Also makes it easier to post deals. Open subforum, post thread. People can then use that thread to ask about the game, share codes, gather interest for group buys etc. All the stuff that normally clogs up the main deals thread and pushes other deals pages away.

It adds functionality and removes a problem. that's a good thing.

What is the negative side of having a deals subforum? Will people stop posting deals? No. Will there be confusion about the deals? No. You can just click a link and see if a deal is still on, and if it isn't you can even post at the end of the thread that it's over. A conscientious OP could even add it to the first post, or a mod could close it if it's reported.

Well from Overclockers perspective it makes a whole forum dedicated to talking about competitors (as they seem to slowly be expanding the PC games they sell) In the long run it's not something they'd want to do.
