Seat Leon alternative suggestions

Completely in the wrong order!

I listed them in order of safety :p

Now I've been thinking more about this whole situation and maybe I'm better off keeping the 200?

I think it might squeeze out close to 35mpg if I keep off boost and below 70.

It's got super low miles, but so what? It's still a pretty old car now and most people want one that's slammed on rimz so they can go "skidding". Not many people will appreciate it for what it is. The low mileage is not as big a deal as I'm making out.

OK so the bodywork is mint, but then any car I get is going to be pretty tidy and no car is immune from car park dings (famous last words!). I can be super selective and park the car on end spaces so only one car is next to it.

It's not going to be as comfortable as a Mondeo - I'm only doing 30 miles each way, hardly a big deal?

I can put normal unleaded in it and just keep off boost (need to confirm this with people that know more about that kinda stuff).

The main thing is reliability, I know the car inside out, it's mechanically 100% perfect, all of the main components are good for a further 100k+ miles.

What do you think guys?

The Seat Leon is essentially a VW Golf with all the nice bits taken out, so you are left with a noisy, unrefined diesel hatchback filled with crap nasty plastics and cheap build quality. Add in the styling and it's probably my least favourite hatchback. Nasty things.

Personally I'd take a VW Jetta over a Leon every day of the week. It's fundamentally the same thing but without the horrid interior, nasty plastics and jellymould styling.

Edit: Eh!? You are looking at Mk1 Leons?! Thats the sort of car you buy with £2.5k not £5k. Step away from the Mk4 Golf platform vehicle. There is no need to buy that at this money, you can afford a car thats a generation newer!

Absolute twaddle :p

The preface lift mk2 is absolutely horrendous as interiors go admittedly.

The facelift is basically the same as the current Golf / A3. From an interior point of view there is no argument.

You say this...

Then agree with me. Bizarre. Not as if he's going to be looking at anything but a prefacelift at £5k is it?

The facelift is not basically the same as the current Golf/A3 at all. The A3 is an all new car for a start!

What was that you said about twaddle? :p

Prefacelift mk2 Leon and the facelift are two different cars.

Does VAG have a special factory where they produce parts with the 'nice bits taken out' especially for Seat / Skoda or do they just reuse the same parts? Its the other way round. There are £50k Audis sharing the same parts as a Leon FR.

Having just recently looked at both a Golf Mk6 and Seat Leon 'facelift' recently I can vouch for the fact that the Leon is not as nice inside. Tis one of the reasons I bought a Golf. Although I'll admit it's not the leagues apart that the 'pre-facelift' one was from the Golf.

Which 50k Audi has the interior quality of a Leon?

... will do 35-37mpg at 70mph, less depending on the amount of traffic (slowing down and speeding up)

:)

Interesting - what sort of price range am I looking at for a decent ST?

I have an offer of £4k for the S14a which is a little on the low side but I am considering it.

Anyone have any advice about keeping/selling the 200?

When we say mpg are we talking about what the in-car display says or fill to fill calculations?

Do they need to run on Super?

disagree. Mine is 6 speed and does more like 33mpg at 70 indicated. Need to go less than 65mph to get anywhere near 37.

The laws of aerodynamics must be less pertinent where I drive then ;)

35+ is easy.

This is on the car's readout which I've found to be no more than about 0.5mpg or so inaccurate with the average over a tank (resetting the average when I fill up). I've never filled up, driven on the motorway and then filled up again but maybe I will one day, just to see :p
