If the argument is who has best served human society, then it's clearly Bill Gates.

If it's innovation in technology, then it's probably Steve Jobs but only by a small margin.

I think you got the 2 Steves mixed up there, Jobs was not an innovator but a marketer an designer - Bill gates was actually much more or an innovatory, when he started MS he was very much in the thick of it. DOS was largely his creation.

They bought dos from another guy did they not?

Apple marketing in action... /sigh

This. The amount of **** and lies which have been spread and spewed by Apple and Jobs is unprecedented.

Sure I hope he rests in peace and all that, but you can't forget that this man's personality and company was/is backboned by lies and manipulation.

I wonder how many more years they're gonna milk his death.

To all the people moaning about his personality...

You don't get to the top without making a few enemies on the way ;) If Jobs wasn't the way he was me might not have the tech we have today (or in the form factor it is in).

Like I say, if you're old enough to remember, Bill Gates was just as much of a ruthless businessman and ******* as Jobs. But throw a bit of money at starving children or Africa and suddenly you're a saint.

So what stopped Jobs from doing the same? Or was it that he was more concerned about keeping the wealth or using it to attack his rivals than help mankind?

Exactly...the cult of Apple is still in full swing...

I don't like apple.

And I don't know enough about Jobs' personality and achievements to judge him.

But I can't deny they have created and marketed some very clever products over the years, so it's only fair to show a little respect.

Who knows. Maybe Jobs didn't feel he had to throw money at charity cases to make the world love him. He already had the fanbois doing that. Ultimately who cares? You think Gates spending spree is going to solve all the worlds problems and see us into a millenia of advancement were we travel between the stars sharing our knowledge with the rest of the universe on the USS Gates? I doubt it. He'll be dead in a decade or two, his legacy will last a century or two provided he keeps throwing money at stuff. After that there'll be a guy from Bolton who drives about in a Prius making documentaries about the late 20th century, 21st century who takes trips to old technology fairs and talks about the rudimentary processors and operating systems they used to use in those days, which he still uses because they don't build them like they used to eh up.

Steve Jobs was a great business man, and a great CEO. Perhaps even innovator.

Was he a great man though? Or a moral man? Doubtful.

Dennis Ritchie died nearly a year ago too bet the general public dont bat an eyelid.

I'm no apple or steve hater, great products and great business man for sure!

But I really dislike their use of foxcon for their products. We all know the stories that come out of foxcon fabs and they are rarely good if ever.

I would think a single company with more cash reserves than the US and the most valuable company on earth would be able to fairly pay their employees or outsource to fair manufacturers. Particularly when you take into account the incredibly inflated prices you pay for an apple product.

I'm sure there are parts of my PC that originate from a foxcon fab. Capacitors and all that kinda stuff. But I do avoid them where I can.

Apple is more than capable of doing the right thing and still pumping out huge profits. at the same time boosting economy wherever it sets up shop. In my mind it should.
